Full House alum Jodie Sweetin says her latest residual check was a single cent — a stark snapshot of how streaming has gutted traditional syndication paydays, she revealed on the McBride Rewind podcast.

If you ever wondered what a childhood sitcom gig pays in 2026, Jodie Sweetin just answered it the blunt way: her latest residual for Full House was literally a penny. Yes, one cent. The stamp to mail it probably cost more.

What Sweetin said - and why it stings

On a recent episode of the 'McBride Rewind' podcast, the 44-year-old actor said the checks that used to float actors between jobs have basically evaporated now that reruns live on streaming services instead of in old-school syndication. Back when cable replays ruled, payouts were inconsistent but could be meaningful. Today, streamers use a flatter formula that tends to pay tiny amounts - more tied to subscriber counts than how often an old show actually gets watched - and the result is what landed in her mailbox: a one-cent check.

'I got a one-cent check the other day.'

'Honey, I drive my 2023 used Hyundai Sonata that I love. I rent my house. I have credit cards that are maxed out.'

She was clear that residuals in the streaming era are not something an actor can count on. Even in her 20s, the money was a rollercoaster - sometimes a nice surprise, sometimes just enough to cover dinner - but now it is even less reliable. There are stretches where it feels like things are humming along, and other times when, as she put it, you start thinking about picking up a day job.

The context: her Full House past and Netflix reboot

Sweetin broke out as Stephanie Tanner on Full House and, decades later, returned to the character on Netflix's Fuller House. She has also said before that any new Full House revival would not feel the same without Bob Saget, which... fair.

  • Full House ran for eight seasons, 1987-1995, with a core cast that included John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lori Loughlin, and Andrea Barber - plus Sweetin as Stephanie.
  • Fuller House brought Sweetin back alongside Cameron Bure, Barber, Stamos, Saget, Coulier, and Loughlin. It streamed on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.

The bigger picture: it is not just her

Sweetin is far from the only actor waving a microscopic check. Residuals were a major sticking point in the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, as performers pushed for pay that better reflects the streaming reality. Around that time, Mandy Moore said she once got an 81-cent residual for her work on the award-winning This Is Us, noting that earlier generations of actors could often cover their bills off reruns alone. That gap between success on-screen and what shows up in the mailbox is exactly what Sweetin is pointing to here.
