Will Pixar cook up Ratatouille 2? Director Brad Bird just delivered a definitive answer on the sequel’s chances.

If you were holding out hope for Ratatouille 2, Brad Bird just took the pan off the burner. Pixar is in full sequel mode right now, but the guy who made the rat-cooks-Paris classic says that one is staying a one-and-done.

Bird shuts the door on a Ratatouille sequel

In a new interview tied to his next movie, Ray Gunn, Bird said Pixar has nudged him a few times about revisiting Remy. He is not interested. At all.

"No. I don't. They've made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They'll, like, crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, 'Would you?' And I'm like, 'No, we told that story.'"

That pretty much sums up his stance: not every hit needs a sequel just because people loved it. He lumps The Iron Giant in the same category — great, finished, leave it be.

So why is The Incredibles different?

Because that world still has gas in the tank, according to Bird. He can see more stories with the Parr family, which is why he's involved with The Incredibles 3 — not as director, but as the screenwriter. Peter Sohn is directing the next one, with Bird writing the script. Different vibe, different sandbox, more to explore.

Meanwhile, Pixar's sequel train keeps moving

Context matters here. Pixar is very much in franchise mode right now. Toy Story 5 isn't just happening — it's already off to a massive start with a $71 million opening day, a new 2026 box office record. The Incredibles 3 is officially in development. Naturally, that got people wondering if Remy was next up. Per Bird: no.

What Bird is actually cooking: Ray Gunn

Bird's energy is going into Ray Gunn, his long-gestating adult animated feature finally landing December 18 on Netflix. It's a retrofuturist detective adventure with Sam Rockwell as private eye Raymond Gunn and Scarlett Johansson as multimedia star Venus Nova. Bird also gave Netflix a nod for backing original movies at a time when a lot of studios would rather shovel money into familiar IP — which, let's be honest, tracks with the current landscape.

  • Ratatouille 2: Not happening. Bird says the story is complete.
  • The Iron Giant: Also staying a standalone in Bird's book.
  • The Incredibles 3: In development; Peter Sohn directing, Brad Bird writing.
  • Toy Story 5: Out this year and already scored a $71M opening day, the biggest of 2026 so far.
  • Ray Gunn: Brad Bird's adult animated, retrofuturist mystery premieres December 18 on Netflix; Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson star.

Bottom line

Pixar may be doubling down on sequels, but Ratatouille isn't joining the lineup. If you want more Remy, it's a rewatch night — which, to be fair, never hurts.
