Ryan Gosling’s next chapter includes 'Star Wars,' 'Barbie,' and Netflix projects
Ryan Gosling’s next stretch looks jam-packed—think a galaxy-sized franchise, a toybox behemoth, and a streaming powerhouse—and yes, you’ll want the names.
Filming is already in the can on Star Wars: Starfighter , with Ryan Gosling suiting up as new character Kade Auberon. The standalone movie, directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Jonathan Tropper, has moved into post-production, and early footage has started circulating to give a first look at Gosling’s role. He’s also an executive producer on the film, which Lucasfilm has dated for May 28, 2027 .
Story details on Auberon are still under wraps, including where he fits in the galaxy’s timeline, but the collaboration with Levy and Tropper won’t be a one-off. The trio is already locked to reunite on a very different kind of ride at Marvel.
Next stop: Ghost Rider
At San Diego Comic-Con 2026 , Marvel Studios confirmed Gosling will headline Ghost Rider as Johnny Blaze — again with Levy directing and Tropper writing. It ’s Gosling’s first turn in the MCU and is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2028. Beyond Gosling, Marvel hasn’t announced additional casting yet.
The back-to-back team-ups suggest a creative shorthand the three plan to carry from hyperspace to hellfire. It also follows Gosling’s recent sci-fi run in Project Hail Mary earlier this year.
Two dates are on the books: May 28, 2027 for Star Wars: Starfighter and July 28, 2028 for Ghost Rider.

Gosling is also building out his producing slate. With partner Jessie Henderson under their Open Invite banner, he’s developing a live-action The Flintstones for Warner Bros. built around an adult Bamm-Bamm Rubble. The project went out to writers in late August 2026, and it’s not yet clear whether Gosling will appear on screen or stay behind the camera.
The angle is a notable shift from the classic cartoon focus and comes after years without a major live-action push for the Bedrock brand.
What’s still unsettled
Several long-discussed titles on Gosling’s list remain in various stages of limbo. Here’s where they stand:
- The Gray Man 2 — Momentum has cooled at Netflix, with the Russo brothers busy on Avengers duties at Marvel.
- Tough Guys — An action comedy with Will Ferrell set up at Amazon MGM Studios; Gosling was attached, but updates have been scarce.
- Untitled Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert project — Gosling exited the Universal film due to scheduling conflicts.
- Love of Your Life — He remains a producer on the project.
- Barbie 2 — Talks involving Gosling, Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig are stalled at Warner Bros.; per reports, the studio has until December 2026 to finalize deals before rights could revert to Mattel.
