Netflix remains sitcom central, from Seinfeld and Arrested Development to One Day at a Time — but the clock is ticking. A batch of underrated comedies is set to vanish soon, so cue them up before they’re gone.

Heads up if you like your sitcoms spiky and a little mean: one of Netflix 's quieter gems is about to vanish, and the window to binge it is closing fast.

What is 'White Gold'?

'White Gold' is a two-season British sitcom from Damon Beesley (yep, the co-creator of 'The Inbetweeners'). It is set in 1980s Essex and follows a crew of cutthroat double-glazing window salesmen led by Vincent Swan, a charming, shameless liar who will say anything to land a sale and crush the competition.

If you are into fast, banter-heavy comedy, this is absolutely in that lane. It even brings back 'Inbetweeners' alums Joe Thomas and James Buckley, and it has the same snap: rapid-fire jokes, razor-edged dialogue, and characters who are intentionally awful in a way that fuels the show's darker laughs. On top of that, it is a legit time capsule of the UK's 'Loadsamoney' era — greed is good, the music slaps, and the outfits are loud for all the right (and wrong) reasons.

Short version: watch it before May 17.

So when does it leave Netflix?

Netflix has had 'White Gold' since 2017 under a BBC license. That deal has now lapsed. Season 1 quietly left a few months ago, and the remaining six episodes (Season 2) are scheduled to exit Netflix worldwide on May 17, 2026 — with one notable exception: it will still be available on Netflix in the UK for now. Rights are weird; this is one of those territory wrinkles.

Is it actually good, or just 'cult favorite' good?

The consensus is more than solid. On Rotten Tomatoes, 'White Gold' has matching 88% average scores from critics and audiences, and its second (and final) season carries a 90% audience score. Viewers call it sharp, quick, and downright hilarious, with plenty of people saying it hooked them from scene one.

Fair warning: it ends on a cliffhanger. There was never a Season 3, so you do not get tidy closure. But the ride is worth it.

Where can you watch it after it leaves?

Outside the UK, that is the tricky part. Once it drops from Netflix, finding 'White Gold' gets next to impossible. It is not available to rent or buy digitally, and there is no confirmed new streaming home yet. It also has not popped up on any other platform's May 2026 lineup. If it lands somewhere else, we will all be relieved together.

  • On Netflix since: 2017
  • Season 1: already gone (left a few months ago)
  • Season 2: 6 episodes leave Netflix on May 17, 2026 (except it stays on Netflix in the UK)
  • After that (outside the UK): no rental/purchase options and no announced new streamer
  • Why it rules: Beesley's fast, banter-forward comedy; Joe Thomas and James Buckley reunion; darkly funny characters; big 80s vibes; strong RT scores (88% critics and audience; Season 2 audience at 90%)
  • Caveat: cliffhanger series finale, no Season 3
