Hugh Jackman just tanked a key surprise in The Death of Robinhood, dropping the most predictable spoiler and dulling the hype days before release.

Hugh Jackman went on late-night TV and basically spoiled his own movie. Not that the title was exactly subtle.

Yes, 'The Death of Robin Hood' means what you think it means

Jackman dropped by 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' this week and, after Fallon joked about how often his characters end up six feet under, Jackman leaned into it. The new film is called 'The Death of Robin Hood,' it is directed by Michael Sarnoski, and Jackman is playing the man in green himself. So, about that ending...

"I prefer to do it on film. Spoiler alert. 'The Death Of Robin Hood,' it doesn't end well."

Obvious? Sure. Still, hearing him say it out loud suggests the movie is less about the twist and more about the bruising road to get there.

To be fair, this guy dies a lot onscreen

  • 'The Prestige' (2006): Jackman plays a magician who spirals so far into obsession that he destroys himself.
  • 'Logan ': Wolverine finally goes down swinging, protecting a group of mutant kids.
  • 'Les Miserables' (2012): Jean Valjean makes it to old age, then bows out for good.

So if you had money on Robin Hood not riding into the sunset, you are probably safe.

After Sherwood Forest: Jackman puts on a peg leg

Once 'The Death of Robin Hood' is in the can, Jackman is set to play Long John Silver in a new 'Treasure Island' movie, according to Deadline. Ridley Scott is directing and producing with Michael Pruss for Scott Free Productions. Emmy-winning writer Jack Thorne is handling the script and will also executive produce.

That project is still under wraps, so no plot specifics yet. And who knows — maybe a pirate with a parrot finally breaks Jackman’s unlucky streak. But given the track record, I would not get too attached.
