Next James Bond already chosen, Gary Oldman says
If Gary Oldman is right, the hunt for 007 is already over — and the new James Bond is picked.
During an appearance on Canada’s The Morning Show, Gary Oldman did more than cheer on a colleague — he suggested the next James Bond has already been chosen and threw his support behind his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden.
“It ’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
Oldman’s wording left some wiggle room — it isn’t clear whether he meant Lowden specifically or that Bond’s producers have settled on someone — but it’s the strongest on-the-record nudge yet toward a decision. As of now, there’s no official word from the Bond team.
Why Jack Lowden
Lowden stars opposite Oldman on Slow Horses (Apple TV+ ), a breakout turn that’s kept his name in the 007 rumor mill. The franchise has a history of turning rising actors into global stars, and former Bond casting boss Debbie McWilliams has argued the role works best when the actor remains a “total enigma” to audiences — a lane Lowden still fits.
The speculation machine has been spinning for years. Even Idris Elba — a perennial fan pick — recently shut it down in his case, saying the Bond chatter around him was “never legit.”
What might carry over
As talk swirls about a new direction, there could still be connective tissue to the Daniel Craig era. Rory Kinnear, who played Bill Tanner across those films, has suggested some familiar faces might return even as the series takes “a whole different approach.”
Despite Oldman’s tease, the next Bond hasn’t been announced, and no casting has been confirmed by the producers.
