How old are Ramona and Annie in Sterling Point?
Prime Video's Sterling Point states one lead character's age outright and leaves the other to guesswork, which is why the numbers circulating online don't agree with each other. Here's what the series actually establishes about Annie and Ramona, and why its own backstory rules out the most commonly quoted answer.
Sterling Point has a math problem, and it isn't the obvious one about twenty-somethings playing teenagers. Two of its central characters are routinely listed at the same age, and the show's own backstory says that can't be right.
Annie Jacobson is 17 when the series opens and turns 18 in episode 5. Ramona's age is never stated on screen. Most coverage puts her at 17 as well, which is where the arithmetic falls apart.
Annie is the one the show confirms
Prime Video 's official synopsis pins Annie (Ella Rubin) at 17 — a high school senior from New York City who flies to Muskoka, Ontario after she and her twin brother Connor inherit their estranged grandfather Gordon's island. Megan Park's eight-episode series dropped in full on August 5, 2026, and was renewed for a second season on August 20.
The birthday lands in episode 5, "I'm Not a Shots Girl Either." Annie and Connor turn 18 on the island, with Ramona, Oona, Maple, and Sully in attendance. Everything from that point forward involves two legal adults and one character who isn't.
Ramona is the one it doesn't
The show never gives Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle) a number. The Direct reported 17 off the back of her introduction at the end of episode 1; Capital described her as slightly younger than Annie and also said 17. Slate's reviewer, watching the same episodes, put her at 16 and noted she was:
"floating in some kind of legal hole between guardians"
That legal hole is the strongest evidence available. Gordon's will names Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as Ramona's guardian, and Ramona responds by producing emancipation paperwork for him to sign. He refuses. Emancipation is a proceeding that only exists for minors, which puts Ramona under 18 for the entire season — including after Annie has already aged out.
The timeline that settles it
Steven and Goldie adopted Annie and Connor as newborns. Goldie then got pregnant, returned to Sterling Point to give birth, and died in labour from an undiagnosed heart condition. The baby was Ramona.
Ramona was conceived after her sister was already in the house. She cannot be the same age as Annie, and she cannot be older.
A full-term pregnancy beginning after two newborns arrive puts Ramona at least a year behind the twins, and that assumes the adoption and the pregnancy were nearly simultaneous. Sixteen fits the chronology and the emancipation plot. Seventeen requires a very specific birthday arrangement the show never bothers to explain.
What the rest of the cast is running
Only one other character gets an age stated out loud: Maple, Oona's younger sister, is 12, confirmed in episode 1 dialogue. Oona, Ellis, Rory, and Sully are all estimates. The actors, meanwhile, are almost uniformly older than the parts:
- Ella Rubin (Annie) — 24, born September 2001. Roughly seven years older than her character.
- Amélie Hoeferle (Ramona) — 24, born June 2002. Within months of Rubin's age, playing the younger sister.
- Keen Ruffalo (Connor) — 25, born June 2001, and yes, Mark Ruffalo 's son.
- Bo Bragason (Oona) — 22, born March 2004, and the closest of the group to her character's age.
- Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie (Ellis) — 23. His character's age is guessed at 18 mostly because he flies a seaplane, and Canada won't licence a commercial pilot younger than that.
For the record: Amélie Hoeferle is a few months older in real life than Ella Rubin, which means the actress playing the younger sister is the elder of the two.
