Two Seasons and Done: The Boys’ Spinoff Canceled
The Boys is charging toward an epic five-season finale, with spinoffs on deck and supes from past and present joining the fray—but one fan-favorite group is getting left behind.
The Boys is racing toward its finish line with season 5, but the universe it built isn’t slowing down. One catch: Prime Video just clipped a major branch. Gen V is done after two seasons. The characters aren’t disappearing, though — they’re just getting folded back into the mothership and beyond.
So, what’s actually changing?
Per Variety, Prime Video is not moving forward with Gen V season 3. That stings, considering the college-set spinoff added a fresh lane to this world: Godolkin University, where baby supes get groomed for the big leagues (read: The Seven) and learn how to market themselves almost as hard as they train.
"While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the 'Gen V' characters’ stories in 'The Boys' Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again."
— executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg
Translation: the Godolkin show is over, but Marie, Emma, Jordan, Cate, Sam, and the rest aren’t being shelved. Kripke and Goldberg are already weaving them into The Boys season 5 — which is streaming now on Prime Video — and they’re keeping the door open for other spinoffs in this world.
Why Gen V mattered (and why this is a little surprising)
Across its two seasons, Gen V found its own rhythm: school politics that turn violent in a hurry, campus conspiracies that tie directly into Vought’s bigger mess, and crossovers with the main show that never felt like cheap cameos. By the end, the Godolkin crew’s storylines were pretty much welded to The Boys’ main conflict, which makes this cancellation feel less like a hard stop and more like a lane merge.
The ratings reality check
Here’s the behind-the-scenes piece that likely nudged this decision. Season 2’s three-episode premiere pulled 424 million minutes viewed and hit No. 8 on Nielsen’s streaming top 10 — a strong start, especially with adults 18–49. After that, it only cracked the top 10 one more time all season and never touched its premiere numbers again. Not fatal, but not the heat Prime Video wants when it’s mapping out a growing franchise.
- Gen V canceled: no season 3 (per Variety)
- Key players stay in play: Marie, Emma, Jordan, Cate, Sam, etc. will pop up in The Boys season 5 and elsewhere
- Season 2 performance: 424M minutes at launch, No. 8 on Nielsen; only returned to the top 10 once after
- Bigger universe plans: spinoffs in development include Vought Rising and The Boys Mexico
- Status check: The Boys season 5 is streaming now on Prime Video
What to expect next
If you’ve been watching season 5, you’ve probably already noticed some Gen V fingerprints on the story. That’s not an accident. With Vought Rising and The Boys Mexico on the way, there are multiple spots to reintroduce Godolkin faces — whether as featured players or troublemaking guest stars — and keep their arcs moving without the overhead of a standalone series.
Bottom line: Gen V is out as a show, but the characters are sticking around to make The Boys’ endgame messier in all the right ways.
