The Boys ends its seven-year Homelander vs. Butcher showdown with a finale that nails the post-credits choice. This chapter closes, but the supe-verse is just getting started, with multiple spinoffs already on the launchpad at Prime Video.

After seven years of laser eyes, exploding heads, and very questionable corporate branding, The Boys has crossed the finish line on Prime Video. And yes, I know what you are about to ask: does the finale hide a post-credits tease for what is coming next?

Short answer

"No post-credits scene. Just credits, and a quiet curtain call for the people who made it. "

Instead of a tag, the episode ends with a run of behind-the-scenes photos celebrating the cast and crew, scored to Flogging Molly's "If I Ever Leave This World Alive." It is a literal bow, not a breadcrumb trail.

Why that choice works

I absolutely expected a stinger, especially after word got out that Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy would not show up in the finale itself. That felt tailor-made for a last-second wink to set up the Soldier Boy prequel. Or maybe a peek at The Boys: Mexico, which is still in development. But skipping the tag lets the actual ending breathe. The finale is the point, not the teaser for the next show.

The Boys has always walked a line between dunking on superhero machinery and operating as a very slick piece of that machinery. Sometimes it nailed the satire; sometimes it drifted into becoming the exact thing it was skewering. Slapping a "here is what is next" button at the end would have pushed it in the wrong direction. Even Marvel knew when to holster the post-credits bit with Avengers: Endgame. Same energy here, and it pays off.

Context check: past tags, future plans

  • History of tags: Gen V Season 1 used its post-credits to show Butcher discovering the Supe-killing virus; The Boys Season 4's end-credits brought Soldier Boy back into the mix.
  • No tag this time: the finale ends with a behind-the-scenes photo gallery over "If I Ever Leave This World Alive," as a sendoff to the people who built the show.
  • Franchise status: this is not the end for the universe. A Vought Rising prequel is coming, starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, and it is currently targeting 2027.
  • Setup already seeded: the final season introduced new Supes who are positioned to feed into Vought Rising.
  • Other projects: The Boys: Mexico is in development.
  • Big-picture stakes: the finale caps the long-brewing Homelander vs. Butcher saga that has defined The Boys' seven-year run on Prime Video.

The bottom line

Sometimes the bravest thing a franchise can do is not sell you the next thing during the goodbye. The Boys resists the easy tag, keeps the focus on the story it just told, and lets the weight of those final choices land. It is the right call.

The Boys series finale is now streaming on Prime Video.
