Kurt Russell impressions are a running bit for Ike Barinholtz and Kate Hudson
Ike Barinholtz says the Kurt Russell impression he shares with Kate Hudson became a hilarious part of their friendship — and the reason why might surprise you.
When Kate Hudson casually mentions she had dinner with her mom and Kurt Russell, Ike Barinholtz and his writing partner Dave Stassen can’t help themselves — the Kurt-isms come out. Barinholtz says the running gag kicks in unprompted, and it ’s become a fixture of their conversations on and off set.
“Dave Sass and I , we will constantly do impressions of him to her and she doesn't ask for it,”
Walking through a typical exchange on his podcast Funny You Ask, Barinholtz set the scene with Hudson talking about an evening with Russell and Goldie Hawn.
“anytime she mentions him, I will be like, ‘What did you do this weekend?’ She is like, ‘Oh, I had dinner with Goldie and Kurt last night. He brought over a really nice bottle of wine.’”
“I will be like, ‘It is a f****** Bordeaux, man. You do not even know your f******* wine.’”
On set together
The bit grew out of real-time proximity. Barinholtz co-created and serves as a writer-producer on the Netflix comedy Running Point, while Hudson leads the cast as Isla Gordon, which keeps them in constant contact. Their teasing dynamic has spilled into public moments too, with Barinholtz joking about trying to score an even bigger onscreen connection with her character.
Rom-com reunion in the works
Off the comedy set, Hudson is reportedly attached to produce a sequel to her 2003 hit How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days through her banner Shiny Penny alongside producer Stacey Sher. Both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are expected to return, though the project is still in early development.
The original followed magazine columnist Andie Anderson and ad exec Benjamin Barry as their competing schemes backfired into romance, and it earned close to $180 million worldwide. The new project hasn’t announced further details beyond its early-development status.
