Paramount+ moves fast: Landman gets season 3 before season 2 even wraps

Paramount+ didn’t wait for the dust to settle on Landman season 2. The streamer renewed the oil-industry drama for season 3 before the current season finished, which tells you everything about how it ’s performing.

If you missed the setup: Landman is inspired by the 'Boomtown' podcast and digs into the West Texas oil world through crisis executive Tommy Norris and his family. Billy Bob Thornton shows up as a corporate fixer working for an oil titan. The show launched in 2024, and season 2 — which premiered in October — broke Paramount+ records with over 9.2 million streams for the premiere episode in its first two days on the service. That’s up from the season 1 premiere and, per the streamer, the biggest premiere for any Paramount+ original to date.

CBS Fridays are loud: renewals for Boston Blue and Sheriff Country

Over at CBS, the network called its shot back in December 2025, handing out second seasons to two new Friday players: Boston Blue (a Blue Bloods spinoff ) and Sheriff Country (a Fire Country spinoff).

'Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming, ' CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a Wednesday statement. 'These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.'

Some numbers to make sense of how Friday is shaking out: Sheriff Country is averaging 7.6 million viewers and is consistently winning its 8 p.m. time slot. And yes, the mothership Blue Bloods is still a force, pulling about 8 million viewers and winning every Friday night in total viewers. Quick clarification so nobody gets lost in the franchise web: those 8 million are for Blue Bloods itself, not Boston Blue — but the strong halo clearly isn’t hurting the spinoff.
