Natasha Lyonne Says She Was Escorted Off Flight — and ICE Was Involved
Natasha Lyonne says she was removed from a Delta redeye after taking a Lunesta once seated, recounting on X that she’d boarded Delta One to New York with only a backpack and sneakers.
Natasha Lyonne says her cross-country redeye turned into something way different than a quick nap and a date with Drew Barrymore. The short version: she took a sleep aid after boarding, planned to land in New York and head straight to glam, and instead says she ended up dealing with ICE. Yes, that escalated quickly.
What Lyonne says went down
On Friday, April 10, the 47-year-old 'Poker Face' star posted a detailed update on X about her Delta One redeye from Los Angeles to New York. She says she popped a Lunesta after settling into her seat, boarded with just a backpack and sneakers, and intended to arrive 'bushy-tailed' for a sit-down with Drew Barrymore right after landing. According to Lyonne, that did not happen because she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She called it a 'sign of the times,' thanked people for the support, and apologized to any travelers who got delayed. She also made a point to say she has never had an issue with Delta or TSA and sent love to 'our unpaid TSA workers.'
The timeline, as it unfolded
- Thursday, April 9: Reports surface that Lyonne was escorted off a Los Angeles-to-New York flight. Page Six runs an eyewitness account claiming she looked 'out of it.'
- Later April 9: Lyonne posts that her heart is with 'all the unpaid TSA agents' and says she was looking forward to speaking honestly with Drew Barrymore, but it was not in the cards.
- Friday, April 10: She shares the longer explanation about taking Lunesta on board, planning to head straight to glam for the Barrymore slot, and then being detained by ICE. She thanks followers, reiterates no prior issues with Delta or TSA, and apologizes to any delayed passengers.
- Also April 10: She pushes back at the 'you OK?' chatter and the idea she was unwell, adding that she is grateful and doing pretty well lately — surfing, writing, and seeing theater.
- Context from March 19: Lyonne previously told fans she relapsed after nearly a decade sober but is back on her feet, thanking recovery communities and supporters and saying she will share more when it makes sense.
'Gentle reminder that 'Are you OK?' is maybe my least favorite of all our generic, small talk phrases... I rarely ask it unless I mean to sit with someone for 6 hours and truly listen to the answer.'
The open questions
Delta has not publicly weighed in here — Us Weekly said they reached out for comment. The ICE part is unusual and, frankly, the most eyebrow-raising detail. Lyonne is clearly framing the whole thing as a meds-plus-redeye plan that went sideways, not a meltdown at 30,000 feet. And while an eyewitness told Page Six she seemed 'out of it,' Lyonne says she is fine and not interested in small talk check-ins.
Bottom line: she was supposed to land, glam up, and talk with Drew Barrymore. Instead, we got a confusing travel saga with a government-agency twist, an apology to anyone stuck waiting, and a reminder from Lyonne that she is focusing on recovery and work — and, apparently, surfing.
