Jake and Romy Reiner, children of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, have spoken out following their parents' murder, expressing profound sadness and gratitude for support while requesting privacy.

Jake and Romy Reiner, the children of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, have broken their silence after the shocking loss of their parents. The couple was discovered fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their son, Nick, was apprehended by authorities shortly after and has since been formally charged in connection with the deaths.

Family ’s Heartfelt Statement

In a statement shared with People, Jake and Romy expressed the depth of their grief, saying,

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The siblings reflected on the close bond they shared with their parents, who first met while working on the set of When Harry Met Sally. Rob and Michele’s relationship began after an introduction by cinematographer Barry Sonnefeld, a connection that would later inspire Rob to change the film ’s original ending so the main characters would end up together.

Gratitude and a Plea for Privacy

Alongside their sorrow, Jake and Romy voiced appreciation for the support they’ve received.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.”

They continued,

“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Romy was the one who found her parents after the attack, and Nick was later located on the University of Southern California campus before being taken into custody without bail.

Legal Proceedings and Community Response

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman commented on the case, stating,

“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face.”

On December 16, Nick was officially charged with two counts of murder with a deadly weapon. Authorities have indicated that, while the death penalty remains a possibility, it is rarely pursued in such cases. Nick made his first court appearance on December 17 and is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
