Fresh off expanding Stephen King's universe, Jason Fuchs shifts gears to help drive the next era of Transformers.

Paramount just handed the next live-action Transformers movie to a writer with real chops. Jason Fuchs — yes, the guy who co-created and co-showran HBO 's It: Welcome to Derry — is officially scripting the next chapter. If you care about these films being more than metal-on-metal mayhem, that’s worth a raised eyebrow.

So what is Fuchs actually writing?

According to The Wrap (the news hit June 11, 2026 and made the social rounds right after), Fuchs is scripting an untitled Transformers film designed to continue the storyline from 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. That means we are following up on the big tag at the end of Beasts: Anthony Ramos' Noah Diaz getting approached by a very familiar covert outfit, G.I. Joe. That stinger basically set two lanes in motion — a straight sequel and a separate crossover — and Paramount is developing both.

Where this fits in the plan

Fuchs' movie is one of several Transformers scripts in active development at the studio right now. The other big piece you should know: Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly is writing the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover as its own thing. So, yes, Paramount is building out a larger play here, not just a single sequel and done.

Who is in the mix behind the scenes

  • Writer: Jason Fuchs (It: Welcome to Derry co-creator/co-showrunner/EP; his films have pulled in over $1.9 billion worldwide)
  • Producers: Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy
  • Continuity: Picks up after 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
  • Parallel project: Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover written by Derek Connolly
  • FYI on the announcement: First reported by The Wrap; quickly amplified on socials the same day

Why Fuchs is an interesting pick

Transformers has always been heavy on spectacle; bringing in a writer with horror and character cred suggests Paramount actually wants the story to matter this time. Fuchs just came off launching his own banner, Five Ten Productions, and he’s clearly leaning into franchise- scale work. That’s good news if you want these movies to feel like they have a plan.

Meanwhile, Fuchs is also juggling My Hero Academia

On a separate track, Fuchs is currently writing the live-action My Hero Academia movie for Netflix and Legendary, with Shinsuke Sato directing. If you’re new to it: the story takes place in a world where about 80% of people have superpowers (called Quirks). It centers on Izuku Midoriya, a kid born without powers who ends up inheriting the mantle of the world’s top hero. Production is expected to get going in late 2026, with a release window aimed at 2027 or 2028.

'I’m in the middle of writing it right now, so we’ve not gotten to the casting portion of it' — Jason Fuchs, on My Hero Academia (Oct. 21, 2025 )

The takeaway

Paramount has multiple Transformers scripts cooking, a crossover in the works, and now a proven storyteller driving the direct sequel to Rise of the Beasts. I’ll put it this way: if you want Autobots and Maximals with an actual narrative spine, hiring Fuchs is the most promising creative move this series has made in a while.
