Five years of Shang-Chi? Simu Liu still can’t believe it
Simu Liu is taking a grateful, slightly stunned victory lap for Shang-Chi, sharing memories as he marks a milestone you probably can’t believe hit this fast either.
At 2:25 a.m., Simu Liu hopped on X and dropped a sleepy little gut punch of nostalgia. The actor marked the five-year mark of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings with a one-line post that pretty much said it all.
i can’t believe it’s been five years.
The movie hit U.S. theaters on September 3, 2021, introducing Marvel ’s first Asian lead and a fresh corner of the MCU. Liu’s debut came with set pieces that stuck — the San Francisco bus brawl, that nerve-racking skyscraper scaffolding fight — and a family showdown that ended with Shang-Chi mastering the Ten Rings.
What’s next for Shang-Chi
Liu has been teasing his Marvel return, saying he’s already done wardrobe fittings and hinting that Shang-Chi will be more confident and creative with his powers next time out. He’s also promised an all-new tactical suit when he’s back on the big screen in Avengers: Doomsday.
- Avengers: Doomsday — Liu is expected to suit up for the ensemble, with that new look he’s tried on in fittings.
- Shang-Chi 2 — Director Destin Daniel Cretton and Marvel Studios have said a sequel remains in development, setting up another solo adventure after the team-up.
Five years later, the Ten Rings clearly aren’t going back in the box — and Liu’s already prepping for the next round.
