New 'Sons of Anarchy' show? Theo Rossi teases 'Galaxy Quest meets Curb Your Enthusiasm' idea
Theo Rossi just teased Sons of Anarchy isn’t done yet — a new show is brewing, and the person steering it is exactly who you think.
The new FX project Legends doesn’t put the Sons of Anarchy crew back on their bikes — it puts them on a convention floor as themselves. Created and written by Charlie Hunnam, the meta series follows the former cast reuniting at a fan event when a very real danger forces the once-tight crew to lock in together again, off-camera.
While promoting his indie thriller Come With Me with Ron Perlman, Theo Rossi told Entertainment Weekly that Hunnam has been quietly shaping the show for years and that the finished scripts lean into a big, risky swing.
“So Charlie had this idea, and it’s one of those that is just so crazy it might work,”
Rossi said the tone is playfully self-aware — not a straight biker revival — and name-checked two surprising touchstones to explain the vibe.
“Charlie’s such a great writer, and he has so much passion for how he wanted to do this. It’s like Galaxy Quest meets Curb Your Enthusiasm; it’s this heightened, crazy world.”
Who’s back together
The cast will play heightened versions of themselves, not their old characters. On deck for the reunion:
- Charlie Hunnam — himself
- Ron Perlman — himself
- Theo Rossi — himself
- Katey Sagal — herself
- Maggie Siff — herself
- Mark Boone Junior — himself
- Tommy Flanagan — himself
- Kim Coates — himself
Rossi said the idea taps into a real bond that never really broke after Sons of Anarchy. He described eight years of holidays together, weekend hangs at Dayton Callie’s pool, and group motorcycle rides to neighborhood spots — and noted he’s worked on five projects with castmates since the show ended. They were “a bunch of character actors hoping it might hit,” he recalled, and the show’s success changed their lives and cemented a family feel that’s hard to find.
According to Rossi, Hunnam’s reunion concept took time because so many moving parts had to align, but the scripts convinced him the approach is smart and different. Hunnam is also on board as a producer.
Legends is set up at FX. A premiere date has not been announced.
