Anthony Mackie tears into Man of Steel in resurfaced clip: ‘you have awful taste’
A resurfaced clip shows Marvel star Anthony Mackie torching an interviewer for praising Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel—and the internet is eating it up.
Anthony Mackie does not tiptoe. An old interview clip just bubbled back up, and the Captain America star torches an interviewer over liking Henry Cavill's Man of Steel. It is quick, it is ruthless, and it is very on-brand for Mackie.
The clip: Mackie vs. one very confident Man of Steel fan
This happened during a Collider chat where superhero movies came up. The interviewer volunteered that he was into Man of Steel. Mackie immediately hit the red button.
"You have awful taste. It scares me that you are reviewing movies."
The poor guy tried to defend himself, but Mackie kept the pedal down. The exchange is making the rounds again thanks to a July 2, 2026 tweet from @rupertpubkin that called Mackie a national treasure and shared the clip. Internet, do your thing.
Why that stung: Man of Steel was a line-in-the-sand movie
Zack Snyder's Man of Steel landed in 2013, launched the DC Extended Universe, and split viewers right down the middle. Cavill's take was stoic, the vibe was grim, and the Metropolis-ending punch-up was... a lot. Not subtle. Still, the audience showed up. The film pulled in about $670 million worldwide, so as much as Mackie hates that opinion, plenty of people bought tickets.
Where Superman is now: a clean slate and a busy calendar
Henry Cavill's run ended earlier than a lot of fans wanted, but the cape did not stay in the closet. Under James Gunn, DC has rebooted and moved fast. After David Corenswet's Superman connected with audiences, the new DCU is already branching out.
- Supergirl - Hit theaters June 26, 2026. Craig Gillespie directs, pulling from the 'Woman of Tomorrow' comics. Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El on a darker, space- traveling quest with Krypto at her side, and Matthias Schoenaerts shows up as Krem of the Yellow Hills.
- Lanterns - HBO series, 8 episodes, premieres August 16, 2026. Kyle Chandler is Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre is John Stewart. Two leads, one sector, lots of green light.
- Superman: Man of Tomorrow - Started filming in April 2026 for a July 9, 2027 release. James Gunn has teased a story that forces Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor into an uneasy team-up against Brainiac. Gunn even planted the flag early with a September 3, 2025 tweet: "Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027."
So yes, Mackie thinks liking Man of Steel should maybe disqualify you from reviewing movies. The $670 million box office suggests plenty of folks survived that supposed awful taste just fine. Where do you land on the Mackie roast and the Man of Steel divide? Drop your take below.
