Daredevil: Born Again season 2 turns Hell’s Kitchen into a powder keg, detonating shockers from a darker turn for Karen Page to the jaw-dropping death of Vanessa Fisk—upending Kingpin’s world and raising the stakes.

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again has been throwing elbows since the jump, and not just in the fight scenes. The show keeps yanking the wheel with big choices, some that land and some that... do not.

Where we are before Episode 6

  • Karen Page is written in a noticeably different key this season, which has already sparked a lot of 'wait, what?' reactions.
  • Vanessa Fisk is killed off, which is a legit shock considering her weight in Wilson Fisk/Kingpin's story.
  • And then Episode 6 rolls in and drops Jessica Jones back into the MCU, something the series teased before the episode hit and fans had been betting on for a while.

The Jessica Jones cameo: cool to see, clunky in execution

Yes, it is fun to have Jessica Jones back on screen. That part works on a purely 'we like that character' level. But the moment the cameo glow fades, you hit a wall: there is no clear story reason for her to be there. The episode does not give her anything meaningful to do, and the way her powers show up raises questions the script does not bother to answer. It plays like a drive-by hello.

The bigger problem: fan service for fan service's sake

You can absolutely craft a short, sharp arc around a returning character and make it count. That is not what happens here. Instead, the cameo feels like a box checked to please the crowd. Plenty of people were happy to see her, sure, but as far as the story goes, it is a missed opportunity and a weird pivot for a season that has otherwise been pretty locked in.

Why it stings more on this show

Since Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has been catching heat for tossing in recognizable faces without giving them a real lane. That criticism is not new. What makes it frustrating here is that Daredevil: Born Again usually avoids that trap. The Daredevil corner of the MCU has a reputation for being darker, grittier, and more tightly built than a lot of its peers. Season 2 has mostly lived up to that. Which is why this Jessica Jones detour stands out as a rare stumble.

Bottom line

The season is still a bruiser, and the highs are high. But Jessica Jones popping in without purpose undercuts the momentum. If you are going to bring her back, great — just give her a reason to be in the room beyond the thrill of recognition.
