Tron Ares: Release Date, Plot & Everything We Know About the Upcoming Movie
The cult franchise is coming back.
The previous installment of the Tron franchise was released 15 years ago. And now the fantastic story that began in 1982 has found a sequel.
In 2025, the franchise, which in addition to two films, includes an animated series, video games, comics and even books, will return to the screens. Here's what we know about the upcoming movie Tron: Ares and when it will be released.
Tron: Ares Plot
Not much is known about the plot of the third film, but we know that this time viewers will not travel to the virtual world, but the invasion of the latter into reality. The powerful program Ares from the title of the movie is sent to the ordinary world, which becomes the first encounter of humanity with a new kind of life.
The trailer showed a chase with the participation of the main characters riding light cycles, which have become one of the symbols of the franchise.
The first materials also indicate that the color palette has changed – if the main color of Tron was blue, Ares will be red.
Tron: Ares Main Cast & Creators
Jared Leto and Evan Peters played the main roles in the new movie. They were joined by Greta Lee, known for her work in the series The Morning Show and the movie Past Lives, and Cameron Monaghan, who played Ian Gallagher in the series Shameless.
Gillian Anderson and Jodie Turner-Smith also starred in the movie. Also in Tron: Ares we can expect the appearance of the actor who played Kevin Flynn in the first two films – Jeff Bridges.
The third film in the franchise was directed by Joachim Rønning, a director known for the films Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Young Woman and the Sea. The cinematographer was Jeff Cronenweth, who has worked with David Fincher and is a two-time Academy Award nominee.
Tron: Ares Soundtrack
Daft Punk, who created the incredibly memorable score for Tron: Legacy, will not be returning for the third film. Another equally talented duo, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, will score the new film.
The two-time Oscar winners for their work on David Fincher's The Social Network and the animated film Soul are also known as members of the industrial band Nine Inch Nails.
Tron: Ares Release Date
The project will be released later this year. Tron: Ares will hit the theaters on October 10th.
