Top 5 Must-Binge Shows For The Boys Fans Counting Days To Season 4
Worthy list to binge on your Boys-less evenings.
There are only a few weeks left until the premiere of The Boys Season 4. But for dedicated fans, it feels like an eternity. The explosive Season 3 finale raised the stakes in the Boys vs. Homelander war so high that the wait for the sequel feels like a real drought.
If all the promo efforts for The Boys have you in a black comedy superhero mood, there is a way to at least mute that hunger. Check out the spinoffs of The Boys, the animated Diabolical and Gen V, which take place in the same Vought-controlled universe at the University for Supes.
Done with the spinoffs? There are a few other superhero series with that enjoyable satirical vibe. Of course, none of them are exactly like The Boys, but here are five that come closest.
Peacemaker (2022-present)
Where to stream: Max, Prime Video, Apple TV, NOW, Google Play Movies, etc.
James Gunn's Peacemaker, starring John Cena as the brutal Suicide Squad vigilante, has surprisingly become the most acclaimed project of the new DCU and even the expanded comic book universe.
With Peacemaker's intolerance for injustice, penchant for violence, and comedic dimwittedness, the show comes very close to The Boys in style, tone, and clownish aspects. The only flaw seems to be that it only aired one season, with the second coming in 2025.
Invincible (2021-present)
Where to stream: Prime Video
The animated series about a teen grappling with newfound powers under the watchful eye of his father, who also happens to be the mightiest hero on the planet, has topped many must-watch lists. Like The Boys, the show delves into the dark, twisted realms where having superpowers is not always a blessing.
The critically acclaimed Season 2 landed on Prime Video earlier this year, and Season 3 is already in the works.
Mistfits (2009-2013)
Where to stream: Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, Channel 4, Fandango at Home
This British sci-fi dramedy has long become something of a legend in the superhero genre, so if you haven't watched it yet, it's definitely worth checking out.
Despite an older premiere date, the story of five juvenile offenders who are struck by lightning while doing community service and begin to develop various supernatural abilities has aged really well, giving off strong Gen V vibes.
The Umbrella Academy (2019-present)
Where to stream: Netflix
The central dysfunctional family of adopted children with superpowers is very reminiscent of the atmosphere in the Boys team. Plus, as the siblings embark on a mission to prevent the impending apocalypse, the 'everyone with superpowers is messed up' trope we love so much about Eric Kripke's show comes to the forefront.
The fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy is set to debut on Netflix on August 8, 2024.
Doom Patrol (2019-2023)
Where to stream: Max, Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, etc.
Based on the DC Comics, Jeremy Carver's Doom Patrol is probably the least-known show on this list. However, those who have watched it unanimously claim that the story of a motley crew of super-powered outcasts, spiced with gross-out humor, weird twists, and boundary-pushing, is one of the best in the genre.
And let's not forget the cherry on top – it stars the one and only Brendan Fraser.
The Boys Season 4 will land on Prime Video on June 13, 2024 with three new episodes.
