Ben Shapiro’s viral The Last of Us recap prompts ‘embarrassed’ response from Nick Offerman
In a new interview, Nick Offerman addressed a critic—yes, that one.
On a recent episode of Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso, Nick Offerman watched a clip of commentator Ben Shapiro sprinting through a recap of his standalone hour of The Last of Us — played back at 1.5x speed. Offerman laughed at the turbo delivery, then started picking apart the take point by point.
“I’m embarrassed for his reading comprehension. I think he got eight things wrong in his recap besides his rampant homophobia.”
Shapiro had blasted Season 1’s Episode 3, “Long, Long Time,” for dialing down the zombie threat and dismissed Offerman’s survivalist Bill as a “gay Ron Swanson.” The episode, a tender love story between Bill and Frank (played by Murray Bartlett) set amid the apocalypse, went on to become one of the season’s most talked-about hours — and Offerman later won an Emmy for the performance.
Moving on, not sparring
Offerman said he even wrote a song about the dust-up while on tour, but ultimately decided not to get pulled into an ongoing back-and-forth. He added that he’d rather keep his focus on the work itself, taking on roles that push past his Parks and Recreation image of Ron Swanson.
