Powerful dramas, hilarious comedies and adrenaline-pumping thrillers.

Colin Farrell is one of the most in-demand actors of our time. The Irishman fearlessly takes on the most unexpected professional experiments and handles any task flawlessly.

In honor of the end of The Penguin, in which Farrell played the lead role, we recall other outstanding projects with the actor.

1. The Banshees of Inisherin, 2022

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

The 1920s, a remote island in Ireland. At the center are two friends: Pádraic, a shepherd, and Colm, an elderly violinist. Their relationship is suddenly on the verge of collapse when Colm decides to stop communicating with Pádraic without explanation.

A seemingly simple conflict soon turns into a reflection on the meaning of life, love, loneliness and other existential questions.

Farrell gives one of the best performances of his career as Pádraic. His character is a simple, good-natured man. Farrell masterfully conveys the full range of Pádraic's emotions: from confusion and pain to anger and despair.

2. Seven Psychopaths, 2012

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%

Seven Psychopaths is a brilliant crime black comedy from Martin McDonagh, filled with sharp satire and wild situations. It tells the story of Marty, a screenwriter, who is drawn into a chaotic chain of events after his friends steal a beloved dog from a tough gangster.

The movie is full of witty dialogue and unexpected plot twists. A distinctive feature of Seven Psychopaths is its play with the genre: McDonagh deliberately destroys the stereotypes of crime movies and tells not so much about the adventures of the characters, but about the torments of a creator.

3. Phone Booth, 2002

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 72%

One phone call changes the life of Stu, a successful advertising executive and professional liar. Held hostage in an ordinary phone booth on a busy New York street, the man is forced to play by the rules of an unknown sniper who knows all his secrets and demands open and public confessions.

The director masterfully created a tense atmosphere at minimal cost, proving that a gripping thriller does not need a multi-million dollar budget and special effects.

Shot in just ten days, the movie is no less suspenseful than multimillion-dollar blockbusters that take years to make. Phone Booth is the rare thriller that keeps you guessing even after the credits roll.

4. Sugar, 2024-...

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 81%

Sugar tells the story of a charming private detective named Sugar who sets out to find the granddaughter of a famous Hollywood producer, but encounters a series of unexpected obstacles that reveal the terrible truth about the city's secrets.

Sugar is one of Farrell's best and most unusual roles. He is a lonely detective-cinephile who knows how to observe, who knows more than he says and who is not as simple as he seems at first glance.

Overall, the series is good not only for Farrell's acting, but also for the abundance of cinematic references to noir classics, as well as extremely unexpected plot twists, which certainly contributed to the project's popularity.

5. In Bruges, 2008

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 84%

Two Irish hitmen arrive in Bruges on Christmas Eve. They are hiding out in this quiet Belgian city on the orders of their boss. The last job they were involved in ended tragically – one of them accidentally killed a child.

While the partners wait for further instructions, one of them enjoys the beauty of the town and the other starts an affair with a local girl who has a solid criminal record.

Martin McDonagh's black comedy premiered at Sundance, and Farrell won a Golden Globe for his role in the film. Today, the movie is rightly considered a cult classic, and the number of fans of In Bruges only grows every year.
