A decade after Disney bought Lucasfilm, Star Wars has birthed a galaxy of new icons—but its most compelling breakout still hasn’t hit live-action. Cal Kestis, the resilient Order 66 survivor at the heart of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is the fan favorite begging for a leap from console to screen.

Since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, Star Wars has showered us with new faces across movies, TV, books, comics, and games. One of the best of the bunch still has not made the jump to live-action: Cal Kestis, the padawan-turned-Order 66 survivor at the center of the Jedi video games. And based on a new comment, it sure sounds like Lucasfilm is not done with him yet.

The comment lighting up Cal-watch

An anonymous Disney representative, speaking to Game Rant, dropped this little tease about Cal's future:

"Never say never. We've got his lightsaber in the park. We've got more Cal stories coming."

That wording is vague in a very corporate way. It could just mean more Cal at the parks (Galaxy's Edge already sells his saber), but the phrase 'more Cal stories' points to actual narrative plans, not just photo ops and merch. Theme parks are built around experiences, not character arcs.

Quick refresher on why fans care

Cal debuted in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as a hidden survivor of Order 66 who ends up on a heist to steal a Jedi Holocron listing Force-sensitive children. The game hit big, and the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, launched in 2023. A third game is in the works, though it has not been officially announced yet.

So where could Cal show up next?

  • Parks: His lightsaber is already at Galaxy's Edge, and Disney could always add more in-park Cal content. Fun, but that is not the same as continuing his story.
  • Live-action: Plenty of fans want Cameron Monaghan back as Cal in a movie or series. The catch: Lucasfilm seems to be shifting focus back to theatrical releases over new Disney+ shows, which could shrink the number of projects moving forward. Timeline-wise, the Jedi games sit between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope (the Empire at full strength), so anything set in that era fits. If Lucasfilm wants to get spicy, they could also say Cal survived into the New Republic era and throw him into the post-Return of the Jedi fight against Grand Admiral Thrawn. That last part would be a choice, not a guarantee.
  • Publishing: Books and comics feel highly plausible. Star Wars is massive, but a lot of viewers do not play the games. Dropping Cal as a key player in a film or show risks confusing casual audiences. Lucasfilm Publishing has a good track record expanding fan favorites without making it homework for everyone else, and a Cal comic run or novel series would let his arc breathe.
  • Games: Jedi 3 might wrap the trilogy, but Fallen Order and Survivor reviewed well and sold well. If the third entry lands, EA may not want to mothball a lucrative franchise. Cal could headline a spinoff, step back as a mentor while a new protagonist takes the lead, or pop up in a totally different Star Wars game.

The bigger picture

Even if that Disney quote stops short of an official announcement, it strongly suggests Cal is not being shelved. He is a compelling character with a clear lane in the timeline, and there are multiple ways to keep his story going without boxing in the films or confusing the non-gaming crowd. Whether it is Jedi 3, a comic run, or one day Cameron Monaghan showing up on a big screen, the door is open.
