Rose McGowan Casts Doubt on Harvey Weinstein’s Prison Time
Rose McGowan voices suspicion over Harvey Weinstein’s incarceration, questioning if he’s truly behind bars and reflecting on Hollywood’s past reverence for the disgraced producer.
Rose McGowan, known for her work as both an actor and activist, has openly questioned whether Harvey Weinstein is actually serving time in prison. McGowan, who was among the first to publicly accuse Weinstein of sexual assault, has long been a central figure in the MeToo movement, which encouraged countless women to come forward with their own stories of abuse within the entertainment industry.
Weinstein, a former Hollywood powerhouse, faced allegations of sexual misconduct from more than 100 women. In 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in a New York court after being found guilty of rape and criminal sexual acts. However, that conviction was overturned in April 2024 due to procedural issues with witness testimony, and a retrial is now pending. Separately, in 2022, Weinstein was convicted in Los Angeles on charges of rape and other sexual offenses, receiving a 16-year sentence.
McGowan’s Skepticism and Personal Reflections
During a recent appearance on Paul Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, McGowan expressed her doubts about Weinstein’s incarceration. When asked if she believed justice had been served, she replied,
I would love to see a picture of him in prison. I suspect he’s been in a mansion in Connecticut. That’s my theory.
She continued,
I don’t know if he’s ever spent a day in prison. Hollywood, baby. I don’t know, maybe.
McGowan went on to describe Weinstein as a thug, but not in the way people might imagine.
I think he was a thug. Not the Mafia boss of the cool kind with the suit, like Marlon Brando, Godfather type, but more like a street way.
She also reflected on the way Hollywood once idolized Weinstein, noting,
They calculated that he was thanked more times than God at the Oscars. Harvey Weinstein was their god. This was far worse than the cult I grew up in.
Looking Back and Moving Forward
After the emotional interview, McGowan shared her desire to return to acting. She admitted,
The majority of my life than not I have had this warthog from hell on my back and buying off public’s perception of me.
