Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island just sprang back into conversation, with two actors now rumored to board—what that signals for the pirate adventure is the juicy part.

In a new chat with Collider, Ridley Scott casually name-dropped the young lead he’s chasing for his long-gestating take on Treasure Island — and two very famous Hughs. Scott said he’s looking at Owen Cooper, the breakout from the UK thriller Adolescence, for Jim Hawkins, and indicated he plans to make the film with Hugh Jackman while hoping to bring Hugh Grant aboard as well.

“Yes, with Hugh Jackman. I hope Hugh Grant, and I hope the kid from Adolescence.”

Scott mentioned the pirate adventure while discussing another project, The Dog Stars, according to Collider. He didn’t spell out specific roles, but Jim Hawkins is the story’s wide‑eyed hero — the innkeeper’s son who finds a treasure map — and Long John Silver is the iconic pirate who becomes Jim’s dangerous mentor and foil.

  • Owen Cooper — reportedly eyed for Jim Hawkins
  • Hugh Jackman — reportedly attached; role not announced (Silver is the obvious plum part)
  • Hugh Grant — someone Scott says he “hopes” to land

Stevenson’s novel remains a go-to for filmmakers, with its mutinies, buried gold and the cat‑and‑mouse bond between Jim and Long John Silver. Scott, whose films have swung from swords-and-sandals epics to modern action, is circling a fresh big-screen voyage back to that island.

Collider didn’t report a production start or release window, and official casting hasn’t been announced.
