Netflix's The Sandman will return for Season 2 on July 3, even as serious allegations surround the comic's original creator, Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman, along with his estranged wife Amanda Palmer, is currently facing a lawsuit alleging sexual assault and human trafficking. In addition, multiple women have accused Gaiman of sexual misconduct. He has denied all allegations, stating in a blog post that he has "never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone."

The legal fallout has already impacted other Gaiman-linked projects: Disney reportedly paused its adaptation of The Graveyard Book, and a planned Coraline musical was cancelled earlier this year. Netflix also cancelled Dead Boy Detectives — though the platform has not confirmed if that move was connected.

Despite the controversy, The Sandman Season 2 remains on track. Executive producer David Goyer addressed the situation in an interview with Variety, saying:

"Even when the accusations first came out, I think we were three weeks from finishing filming season two. Neil wasn't as involved this time.

Obviously, it's complicated. I have tremendous respect for women who come forward in those situations... but Netflix had spent two years making this. There were so many people involved — actors, writers, directors — and if we didn't air it, they wouldn't be fully compensated."

Goyer added: "We just decided we're going to let the work speak for itself. But I'd be crazy to say it wasn't weird."

In a lengthy blog post titled "Breaking the Silence," Gaiman defended himself, calling the accounts "a mix of things that happened and things that emphatically didn't." He described past relationships with accusers as consensual, while also admitting to emotional failings, writing that he was "emotionally unavailable," "self-focused," and "careless with people's hearts and feelings."

Netflix has not issued an official comment on the allegations, but for now, the show's second season is moving forward as scheduled.

The Sandman Season 2 premieres July 3 on Netflix.
