Eternia is back. The 2026 live-action Masters of the Universe is loading up on familiar names from the toy shelf and the cartoons, and honestly, it looks like the biggest swing this franchise has taken on the big screen. Heroes, villains, royals, and a couple of deep cuts are all in the mix. If you want to keep score, here’s where things stand.

Early buzz: respectful, loud, and suitably pulpy
First reactions hit in May, and the vibe is that the movie actually respects the original without turning into a fossil. Multiple early viewers called out how well the cast fits (Galitzine as He-Man got specific love, Camila Mendes as Teela is getting raves, and Idris Elba’s take on Duncan sounds both grounded and fun). And yes, there’s a surprising amount of praise floating around for Jared Leto’s Skeletor. Make of that what you will, but the chatter is positive.
"a love letter to the original"
There was also a fresh look at Galitzine in full He-Man mode shared on May 20, which only poured more gasoline on the hype fire. The film opens in the U.S. on June 5, 2026.
The cool surprise: they’re reaching deep
It’s not just the headliners. Pulling in Goat Man, Tri-Klops, and Trap Jaw screams we’re getting more than a greatest-hits album. That’s clever world-building right out of the gate, and it makes the place feel actually lived-in instead of like a He-Man-and-friends skit.
Who’s conspicuously missing (for now)
Even with that stack of names, a bunch of heavy-hitters from the toy line haven’t been announced. Battle Cat and Orko are the obvious question marks — if they’re in this thing, the studio’s sitting on it. On Skeletor’s side, Beast Man and Mer-Man haven’t surfaced yet, and neither have Whiplash or Stinkor. On Team He-Man, Ram-Man and Mekaneck are still MIA, and the sky crowd — Stratos and Buzz-Off — hasn’t shown up in the roll call either. Any of these could still pop later, but as of now, they’re not on the official sheet.
Deep-lore favorites still on the bench
From the comics and expanded stories, the most glaring omission is She-Ra/Princess Adora. If they’re saving her, that tracks — she’s a franchise unto herself. Likewise, no Hordak or Shadow Weaver, and none of the Snake Men big guns like King Hiss or Kobra Khan. Other names fans keep asking about: Clamp Champ, Sorceress Teela (that later evolution of the character), Scare Glow, The Goddess, Moss Man, Grizzlor, and Castaspella. In other words, there’s plenty of runway left if this turns into a series.
Where this is heading
Every new casting drop has widened the scope of Eternia, and the early word-of-mouth is that the movie nails the tone: big, fun, and not embarrassed by its roots. Side note that’s worth flagging: elsewhere in the expanding MOTU conversation, original He-Man star Dolph Lundgren is officially set to return in a new Masters of the Universe project — separate from this reboot’s confirmed lineup — which tells you the brand is heating up on multiple fronts.
The date
Masters of the Universe lands in U.S. theaters on June 5, 2026.
