Sterling Point turned a question about two sisters into an eight-episode guessing game, and the Prime Video hit doesn't hand over the full answer until its finale. Here's the complete family history behind Annie and Ramona — who knew what, when they learned it, and why the truth sat on a Canadian island for sixteen years.
Sterling Point dropped all eight episodes on Prime Video on August 5, 2026, became the platform's No. 1 global debut, and immediately sent half its audience to Google mid-binge. The question was always the same one: how exactly are Annie and Ramona related?
Megan Park's show — from the My Old Ass director, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage co-showrunning and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap producing — spreads the answer across the entire season on purpose. Here it is assembled.
What the twins knew going in
Annie (Ella Rubin) and her twin brother Connor (Keen Ruffalo) are 17-year-olds raised in New York City by Steven (Jay Duplass) and his late wife Goldie. They've always known they were adopted as newborns, and they've always been told Goldie died of cancer. Then Goldie's estranged father Gordon dies and leaves the twins a small island in Ontario's Muskoka region — a grandfather they were never allowed to meet, leaving them property they've never seen.
When they arrive, there's a girl their age living in the cabin: Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle), who says she's an heir too.

Reveal number one: Ramona is Goldie's daughter
The season's first big correction to the family record: Goldie's marriage to Steven collapsed years earlier. She left New York, took the toddler twins back to Sterling Point, and Steven followed and brought the kids home without her. Goldie filed for divorce, had an affair with her high school sweetheart Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) — who was married to Kate and is the father of Annie's love interest Ellis — and then died giving birth to Ramona. The cause was an undetected heart condition, not cancer.
Gordon raised Ramona on the island. Steven knew she existed the entire time and kept the two halves of the family apart for sixteen years.
On paper, Annie and Ramona share zero DNA. In practice, they share a mother, a grandfather, an island, and a man who lied to every child involved.
Reveal number two: who Ramona's father is
The show spends most of its runtime pointing at Joe. The affair, the timing, the geography — everything fits, and even the islanders assumed Goldie got pregnant by either Joe or a passing tourist. The finale 's paternity test lands elsewhere: Ramona's biological father is Steven, who had spent his adult life believing he couldn't have children at all.
So the final map reads like this:
- Goldie — mother to all three kids: Annie and Connor by adoption, Ramona by birth.
- Steven — adoptive father of the twins, biological father of Ramona.
- Gordon — Goldie's father, Ramona's guardian, and the man whose will forced the reunion.
- Joe — the season-long red herring; Ellis's dad, nobody else's.
Annie and Ramona are sisters twice over — through Goldie and through Steven — without a single shared gene.
Where it leaves them
The finale ends with a trade: Ramona heads to New York to finally get to know Steven, while Annie stays behind on the island she's come to love. Ramona's four-word explanation for a season of loyalty — "Because I'm your sister" — does the closing work.
"It kind of unravels her life in this dramatic, funny, beautiful, sad way," Rubin said of Annie's arc in an August 2026 TODAY interview.
Prime Video renewed the show on August 20, 2026, with the season 1 finale already seeding the next mystery: the twins have quietly started looking for their birth parents. The tree has more branches coming.
