Don't watch these flicks alone.

Watching action movies with friends is like watching a sports match - everything is decided by the dynamics and spirit of confrontation. Besides, good action movies have no expiration date – both fresh action movies and half-forgotten old-school films can be equally impressive.

1. Run Lola Run, 1998

Director Tom Tykwer delivers 80 minutes of pure adrenaline, throwing Lola through the streets of Berlin – she needs to get a lot of money to save her boyfriend's life.

Run Lola Run moves at the fast pace of the late 90s and early 00s, delighting the viewer with clip editing and stylistic delights. The main thing is that the movie not only offers three variations of events, but also subordinates all alternatives to a crazy drive – not for nothing was the German director's movie once praised by both critics and viewers.

2. Assault on Precinct 13, 1976

Action movies sometimes resemble Westerns, and Westerns resemble action movies. Assault on Precinct 13 combines the genre formulas of both into a 90-minute suspense thriller, from John Carpenter's chilly synth score to explosive gunplay.

As the cops try to hold off a vicious gang that outnumbers them, Carpenter takes the iconic siege plot to the next level, adding an eerie play of light and shadow and a horror-like setting.

3. Cobra, 1986

The stylish action movie with Sylvester Stallone was underestimated in the 80's, and George Cosmatos' film was called vulgar – a lieutenant nicknamed Cobra hunts a gang of sectarians using the most brutal methods and his right to violence.

Cobra is a movie to watch in a large company, it is unlikely to surprise with script twists, but will captivate with brisk editing and old-school style: neon streets and banners, brutal Stallone with a match in his mouth, and killers are ruthless psychopaths in leather jackets.

4. Extraction, 2020

The unexpectedly good action movie from Netflix introduced a new hero – military man Tyler Rake, played by Chris Hemsworth. Tyler rescues the son of a respected drug lord from a hostage situation while destroying the criminals in every way possible: hand-to-hand and with guns.

The movie plunges you into the musty and unfriendly slums of Bangladesh, and the best scene was filmed in one take for 12 minutes – an absolute masterpiece in non-stop mode.

5. Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, 1991

The Story of Ricky has gained a special status among fans of Hong Kong action movies. The young and resilient Ricky ends up in a futuristic prison, where he quickly accepts the harsh rules and gets involved in the life of the gangs.

Soon the prisoners, guards and even the deputy warden realize that this guy is dangerous to deal with – Ricky can kill with one punch. The Story of Ricky is a parade of unrestrained trash and graphic violence, a movie as cheeky, funny and hypertrophied as possible.
