Ella Langley’s Tearful Salute to the Women Powering Country Music Steals the 2026 ACMs
Overcome with tears, Ella Langley accepted Female Artist of the Year at the 2026 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, thanking her fellow nominees before admitting, I'm trying to say something, but I can't.
Ella Langley just had the kind of night at the ACMs that makes careers and ruins mascara. The 27-year-old walked away with a stack of trophies and got choked up on live TV accepting the big one: Female Artist of the Year.
That onstage moment
'I'm trying to say something, but I can't.'
That was Langley, on Sunday, May 17, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, trying to wrangle her emotions and thank the women in her category. She also admitted the whole day felt off — apparently awards mornings love chaos — which makes sense given what happened next.
Backstage pep talk, courtesy of Lainey, Miranda, and Kelsea
Before the show, Langley walked into Lainey Wilson's room, promptly got overwhelmed, and got wrapped up in a hug and an on-the-spot prayer from Wilson. Then Miranda Lambert popped in wearing a little pink hat, because of course she did. Kelsea Ballerini also gets a special shoutout from Langley for simply loving her through it. It was a very tender, very behind-the-scenes kind of boost — and Langley was crystal clear she wouldn't be on that stage without that support.
Worth noting: Megan Moroney was nominated too but couldn't be there — she was busy being maid of honor at her best friend's wedding. Legit excuse.
The family thanks (and one line that made me hit rewind)
Langley made time for the people who got her here: her parents and her family, who she says keep showing up and staying their delightfully weird selves — which keeps her grounded. She also thanked Jesus 'for letting me do this for a whip.' Yes, she really said 'for a whip.' Maybe she meant 'for a living,' maybe it was nerves, maybe it's an inside joke — either way, it was a very human, very live-TV slip that somehow made the whole moment feel more real.
She didn't just win — she cleaned up
- Female Artist of the Year
- Song of the Year
- Artist-Songwriter of the Year
- Single of the Year
- Music Event of the Year
That tally made Langley the winningest artist of the night. And she used her time up there to circle back to the women in country who lifted her up:
'Thank you to the women. I would not be standing up here without that.'
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the room...
Shania Twain handled hosting duties, the show streamed on Prime Video, and Cody Johnson took home Entertainer of the Year.
What's next: a whole lot of touring
Langley is already back to work on The Dandelion Tour, running now through August 15. If you&aposre catching a date, expect the hits, including her award-winning single 'Choosin' Texas,' plus the crowd-pleaser 'You Look Like You Love Me.' When she announced the run on February 2, she kept it simple on Instagram: 'You know we had to take this record on the road… So excited to announce The Dandelion Tour! Also, bringing some of my favorite people along, you won't wanna miss this 🌼.'
Big night. Bigger momentum.
