TyAnnie fans might want to get excited. But first we have to wait for the new season!

Summary

  • For three seasons, Ty and Annie have been trying to come to terms with their feelings for each other.
  • The Season 3 finale hinted that they might get together.
  • TyAnnie is the endgame in the books, so we should wait to see how their relationship develops in Season 4.

Sweet Magnolias, Netflix's adaptation of Sherryl Woods' book series of the same name, is first and foremost a love story, and love, as we all know, isn't always easy. That's especially true for the titular trio: Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) has rekindled her feelings for Ronnie (Brandon Quinn) and is trying to rebuild a relationship with him; Helen (Heather Headley) is still torn between Ryan (Michael Shenefelt) and Erik (Dion Johnstone); and Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) and Cal (Justin Bruening) are still working to establish a healthy relationship after both have traumatic pasts.

And that's why the drama plays out not only in the lives of the protagonists, but also in the lives of their children. For three seasons in a row, we've watched the heartwarming but, let's face it, insanely slow-burning relationship between Maddie's son Tyler (Carson Rowland) and Dana Sue's daughter Annie (Anneliese Judge).

While the fourth season of Sweet Magnolias is clearly not coming anytime soon, let's ponder whether they'll get together in the future episodes.

Ty and Annie's Relationship History

Season 1 began with Annie's crush on Ty, which was incredibly annoying to Kyle (Logan Allen), Ty's younger brother, who is in love with Danna Sue's daughter. And while Ty cared for her like a best friend, we clearly saw that he was feeling something too, he just didn't realize it. The acknowledgement came with Annie's drunken kiss at the party and then at the prom when both were disappointed that they had invited others instead of each other.

In Season 2, Ty dated CeCe (Harlan Drum) and Annie dated Jackson (Sam Ashby), gradually learning that they were not with the people they were meant to be with. As a result, they were both single again in Season 3, and after a rough breakup with Jackson, Annie rushed into Ty's arms, once again revealing the teens' feelings for each other. The way they held hands in the finale also suggests that they may have finally accepted that they love each other.

The Writers Really Should Bring Them Together in Season 4

Rowland spoke to Us Weekly and marked himself as a clear supporter of the 'TyAnnie' ship. The actor admitted that their relationship is incredibly slow-burning, but he, like viewers, is looking forward to a resolution:

'The writers, they love this slow burn. And I think what they're doing is turning the furnace on so gradually to get people's excitement up, like they did for the car crash in Season 1, where it's got all of this anticipation. And I love how the season ends with this subtle hint towards the relationship. And it's a massive cliffhanger of the season.'

We really need Ty and Annie to finally confess to each other, and it's not just a fan ship, as TyAnnie is book canon! According to the book Home in Carolina, they end up together and have a baby. Unfortunately, they are in the process of divorcing, but they will get back together.

But for now, both are learning to understand their feelings and talk about them openly, without avoiding difficult conversations and their possible consequences. Both characters have gone through a lot of growth, have matured enough, and are ready to enter into a healthy relationship. Besides, if that doesn't happen, we'll be back in the disappointing loop of the Annie-Ty-CeCe love triangle that was hinted at in Season 3, and that's not something fans are looking forward to.

Sweet Magnolias Season 4 is in post-production. It should be released sometime in early 2025.
