Mindhunter Star Says Two Netflix Movies Are on the Table

Mindhunter may not be completely dead after all. According to series star Holt McCallany, creator David Fincher is considering bringing the show back — but not as a traditional third season.
Speaking with CBR, McCallany revealed:
"I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies."
He was quick to temper expectations, though: "But I think it's just a chance. I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts."
McCallany even mentioned he wrote a script himself, which Fincher gave notes on. But so far, nothing is officially in motion.
Fincher originally pulled the plug on Mindhunter after Season 2, citing cost:
"For the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show... I honestly don't think we're going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic — dollars have to equal eyeballs."
The critically acclaimed crime drama starred McCallany, Jonathan Groff, and Anna Torv, and followed the FBI's early days of criminal profiling and serial killer interviews, starting in the late 1970s.
As for the rumored films, McCallany says there's no green light yet — just hope:
"I would love it if we were to return… but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align."
So for now, the most likely return of Mindhunter is in the form of three standalone movies — if Fincher decides to move forward.
