Pedro Pascal has been everywhere lately — from The Last of Us to The Mandalorian to suddenly starring in every prestige director's next big thing.

After years of bit parts and near-misses, he's now one of the most in-demand actors working today. And with his name now attached to Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, he's officially entered remake territory.

So what does Pascal think is the gold standard for movie remakes? One film stands above the rest for him: Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear.

"I think that Cape Fear is the best remake of anything that I've ever seen," Pascal told The Independent. "I remember seeing that in the theatre when I was a kid and seeing Juliette Lewis and just being like, I guess what some people felt when they saw Brando maybe in Streetcar. The strangeness of her performance and honesty of it, I remember it just blowing my mind."

Released in 1991, Scorsese's version of Cape Fear reimagined the 1962 thriller originally directed by J. Lee Thompson. Robert De Niro took on the role of Max Cady — a violent ex-con out for revenge — while Juliette Lewis played the teenage daughter of the man he's stalking. Lewis was only 18 at the time but held her own against De Niro, delivering a performance that clearly left a mark on Pascal.

It's high praise coming from someone now headlining a remake himself. Pascal is set to star as Reed Richards in Marvel's Fantastic Four, alongside Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. And while superhero reboots are notoriously hit-or-miss, Pascal's admiration for Cape Fear shows he's not against a remake — as long as it's done right.

With studios increasingly leaning on old IP instead of original stories, Pascal's pick is a reminder that remakes can still pack a punch — if they've got the right director, the right cast, and a reason to exist beyond just cashing in.
