If the Bridgerton writers wanted to craft a cliffhanger out of Colin Bridgerton's proposal to Penelope Featherington, they didn't do a very good job. Our beloved wallflower can't say no, not after that steamy carriage ride.

In fact, the trailer for Part 2 clearly states that Episode 5 will begin with the happy betrothal announcement between Penelope and Colin, whose pairing fans have affectionately dubbed Polin. And there is one detail in the clip that sent absolutely all Bridgerton fans into a frenzy.

The Polin Engagement Ring

Even before the trailer was released, eagle-eyed fans noticed in various promo clips and photos that the engagement ring Colin is about to give Pen looks very familiar. As a matter of fact, it could be the exact same ring that has already made an appearance in Bridgerton. Let us remind you.

In Season 2, Anthony is determined to marry the season's Diamond, Edwina Sharma, even though he is clearly in love with her sister, Kate. So he requests the family heirloom ring that his father Edmund commissioned to give to his mother Violet as a token of their eternal love.

Violet is reluctant to give the ring to her son because she knows that his feelings for Edwina are not genuine, and the ring is the symbol of pure love. However, Anthony shakes this off and proposes to Edwina with the ring anyway. There is even a wildly awkward scene in the show where the ring is stuck on Kate's finger when a jeweler insists on trying it on in Edwina's absence.

Of course, the whole Edwina story taints the ring forever for Anthony and Kate. In Season 3, you can see that the new Viscountess Bridgerton is not wearing any ring at all. And we don't blame her. After the shenanigans with her sister, she might not even want to look at the family heirloom.

But for Polin, Violet's ring is just perfect.

The Token of Love

Apparently now that the eldest Bridgerton has had his failure with the family ring, the next son to marry will have a chance to give it to his young bride. And for Polin, this ring works on so many levels.

Violet is a huge fan of true love stories. And it seems that she always knew that Pen and Colin were meant to be together. Besides, she has seen how obsessed her third son has become with their neighbor. So she will be more than happy to give the ring, which is a symbol of genuine love, to the new couple.

Also, Polin having the ring is a sweet nod to the fact that their journey in many ways parallels the story of Violet and Edmund. In addition to being the perfect match made in heaven, they were also neighbors and friends first. This is nothing less than a multigenerational friends-to-lovers story. And we are totally there for it.
