Who Is Squid Game's New Big Bad? Fans Seem To Have Answer

Summary
- Squid Game Season 2 has received a new exciting update: fans can expect it in the second half of 2024.
- This has fueled speculation about what twists and turns the new episodes might bring.
- One Redditor came up with a theory about who might fill the late Oh Il-nam's shoes as the leader of the deadly games.
- And the theory is actually quite plausible.
Netflix has narrowed down the release window for Squid Game Season 2 and announced that they are working towards the second half of 2024 as a deadline. This is amazing news for all fans of Hwang Dong-hyuk's survival dystopian series.
While the gap between seasons will be about three years, it's slowly coming to an end, which is a perfect excuse to rewatch Season 1 and take to social media to speculate with other fans about what's in store for Seong Gi-hun aka Player 456.
Season 2 Breadcrumbs
There isn't much information about the plot of the upcoming season of Squid Game. What we do know is that Gi-hun will return with a new mission - to take down the sinister organization that runs the games.
But who exactly will he be fighting now that Oh Il-nam aka Player 001 is dead? We saw in the final moments of Season 1 that despite the loss of the main puppeteer, the games continue and recruitment for the deadly challenge is underway. So there is no doubt that we will see a new battle royal unfold on screen later this year.
New Antagonist
The Front Man is apparently returning for Season 2, as well as numerous VIPs willing to spend big bucks for the exclusive entertainment. But they are all just participants in the deadly show. To keep it going, it needs a real boss to take up Il-nam's philosophy and carry it on.
And there is a very convincing theory on Reddit as to who that might be.
Like Father, Like Son
Redditor u/Flat_Specialist_7120 took to the r/FanTheories subreddit to share their theory about Squid Game's next big bad. And it actually makes a lot of sense.
Remember how Oh Il-nam kept dropping hints about having a son? Sure, the guy was not trustworthy at all and could make up stories to get closer to Gi-hun, but what if there was some truth in his tales?
If Il-nam really does have a son out there (and it is not Gi-hun as some fans theorize), who better to step into dear old dad's shoes than him? In fact, he might already be part of the family business.
After all, Il-nam knew all along that he was on borrowed time, so it's not too far-fetched to think that he handed over the keys to the kingdom before he even entered the game in Season 1.
Well, if this theory is true, it would be some twisted family affair and an exciting revelation for Squid Game Season 2 that we can't wait to get our hands on. Right?
