Which of The Seven Dies in The Boys Comics? Major Spoilers Ahead
A lot of those Supes got what they deserved!
Summary
- The Boys departs from the original comic book, but still follows its structure.
- Although the arcs of many Supes already differ from the source material, the fates of some will likely follow the comics.
It's probably no secret that Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series The Boys, for all its satire of the United States under the Bush and Obama administrations, is, to put it mildly, a problematic work that often becomes its own object of ridicule. In this respect, the live-action series created by Eric Kripke is in many ways superior to the source material, reimagining many plot points as well as the characters themselves.
Nevertheless, the Prime Video series, for all its creative freedom, attempts to more or less adhere to the structure of the original narrative. And while many aspects of the story have been significantly reworked, leading to completely different outcomes, the fates of many of the show's characters are bound to be similar in some way to their comic book counterparts. And that means not everyone from The Seven will survive.
Be warned that this article contains major spoilers for both the comic book series and possibly the upcoming events of the show.
Soldier Boy
Sure, Soldier Boy was the leader of Payback, not The Seven, but his storyline is so ingrained in the history of all Supes that we just couldn't ignore him.
In the comics, Soldier Boy is three different people who inherited the title. The first, who became the prototype for the character played by Jensen Ackles, was killed by Mallory. Not much is known about the second, except that he was used for propaganda films and is now dead. The third, the most despicable, was kidnapped by Butcher and tortured to death while searching for information on Homelander.
Lamplighter
While the former member of The Seven committed suicide in Season 2, his comic counterpart was beaten to death by Frenchie and Kimiko (or should we say The Frenchman and The Female?). He was revived by Compound V, but remained a brain-dead zombie.
Queen Maeve
While the show's creators gave Queen Maeve and Elena a happy ending and allowed them to start new lives, in the comic book, Queen Maeve atones for her actions by sacrificing herself to save Starlight from Homelander. Unfortunately, Homelander ripped her head off as a result.
A-Train
In the fourth season, the guilt-ridden A-Train became a mole in the Vought Tower to atone for his actions, especially the death of Hughie's girlfriend. However, in the comic book, Hughie, loaded with a dose of Compound V, kicks him with his foot, instantly rendering him headless.
Black Noir
In the comic, Black Noir is essentially the main villain, being a clone of Homelander. After a violent confrontation with the real leader of the Seven, a half-alive Black Noir is killed by the US Army.
Homelander
As for Homelander, the comic makes his death incredibly ironic given his God complex, since it essentially happens off-panel. He was killed by his own clone, Black Noir.
Did Any Member of the Seven Survive?
In fact, with the exception of Maeve, each of the disguised villains got what they deserved, but two members of The Seven lived to see the end of the comic.
First, of course, is Starlight, who, along with Huey, is the only one to get a happy ending. Second, The Deep got away with it (pun intended) and, what's more, joined a more just team of superheroes after the main events of the comic.
See how the fate of the surviving members of The Seven unfolds in the series. The new episode of The Boys Season 4 will premiere on July 4, 2024.
