How did MCU's most experimental project end?

The last episode of the final season of What If…? has been released on the Disney+. We tell you what was shown in the third season of the animated project and whether it is worth watching.

The multiverse is currently the main direction of development of Marvel Studios projects. According to the mythology of the MCU, it was discovered at the end of the first season of the Loki series, when an alternative version of Loki, following his own convictions, decided to free the universe from the stifling rules of the TVA.

On the big screen, the possibilities of the multiverse began to be felt, beginning with the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter Parker meets his versions from other universes and also makes more balanced choices regarding his enemies.

How Did Season 3 of What If…? Turn Out?

The possibilities of the multiverse are most fully reflected in What If…? The project format allows for the most audacious ideas to be brought to the screen. Each episode lasts no more than 30 minutes, but in that time it manages to reveal as much as possible about the characters' personalities in the new circumstances they find themselves in.

The episode with Agatha Harkness, enchanted by the magic of the movies, is a reference to the recently released WandaVision spin-off, Agatha All Along. The creators of the animated series chose to explore her story from a similar perspective.

The charismatic witch, played by Kathryn Hahn, is obsessed with her own illusions, sees the world through the prism of carefree and simple sitcoms.

In addition, the episode What If... Agatha Went to Hollywood?, reminiscent of Eternals, pokes fun at pretentious art-house cinema – probably as a reaction to the prejudices against comic book movies – and even goes slightly into the territory of Eric Kripke's show The Boys, in which movie stars are superheroes.

In addition, Marvel continues to slowly introduce mutants into its cinematic universe. After the success of Deadpool and Wolverine and the animated series X-Men '97, Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, appeared in the third season of What If…?

The basis of the animated series continues to be the Watcher – a guide among infinite realities. At the end of the episodes, he sums up everything that has been shown on the screen and states the obvious. This can be a bit tiresome, as viewers can figure out for themselves what to take away from this or that story.

Is What If…? Season 3 Worth Watching?

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige said there aren't many Christmas projects in the cinematic universe. The obvious ones are the Hawkeye miniseries and the less obvious one is Iron Man 3.

In 2022, James Gunn released a holiday special episode of Guardians of the Galaxy, in which space pirates kidnap Peter Quill's favorite actor, thinking he's a superhero.

But the most important Christmas project at Marvel Studios is probably What If…? Beginning with the second season, episodes of the animated project are released at the end of December, and some of them are directly related to the holiday. For example, the episode What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?

The project can create a festive mood and give fans of MCU projects hope for a miracle, because in the multiverse anything is possible.
