Movies based on popular games that you wouldn't be ashamed to recommend to a gamer friend.

A Minecraft Movie, an adaptation of the computer game of the same name, has been released. Since the birth of the video game industry, filmmakers have not stopped trying to transfer the gaming experience to the big screen.

And although it was not very effective at first, the phrase "movie based on a game" no longer sounds offensive.

1. Warcraft, 2016

Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft movie project has been in the works for nearly six years. When the technology finally reached the point where computer graphics and live actors could be seamlessly combined in a single frame, the filming process began.

Warcraft is in no way inferior to the original, and the fan community has embraced the movie with open arms.

The world of the orcs is dying, and led by the warlock Gul'dan, they are planning to invade Azeroth through a portal. The king orders Anduin, commander of the Alliance forces, to deal with the orcish forces. Unbeknownst to the two worlds, the portal that connects them is powered by a third force.

2. Uncharted, 2022

The Uncharted video game series was inspired by the Indiana Jones movies and then ended up in the hands of filmmakers.

The plot centers on a young thief named Nate. He has lost contact with his brother Sam and has been hoping to find his relative for 15 years. For a dangerous mission, Nate is recruited by experienced treasure hunter Victor, who turns out to know Sam, giving the boy a chance to reunite with his family.

3. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, 2023

In 1993, the first film adaptation of the game was released –Super Mario Bros., which entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the first attempt in history to transfer a video game to the big screen.

Although the film became a cult classic, the critical reception and the box office disaster discouraged Nintendo from entering the world of cinema for a long time: it took almost 30 years before The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released.

According to the plot, the brothers Mario and Luigi find themselves in the Mushroom Kingdom, where the invasion of the dragon turtle Bowser is in full swing. The brothers try to save the world and Princess Peach.

4. Need for Speed, 2014

Filming racing games is a challenging task because there is often no drama, just a thirst for speed.

The Need for Speed series dates back to 1994, but it was not until 2014 that filmmakers were able to get close to it. The star of Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul, was cast in the lead role in the movie, and the plot was built around revenge.

Tobey is a talented mechanic who takes part in illegal races. He gets into an unpleasant situation, because of which he is falsely accused of manslaughter and sent to prison for two long years. After his release, Tobey wants only one thing – to take revenge on the man who framed him.
