Recently, in May of this year, it was confirmed that Amazon will release its own series about Lara Croft. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of Fleabag and Killing Eve, will be working on the upcoming adaptation.
Rumors about this project have been circulating since last year. Then it turned out that the rights to adapt the games about Lara Croft went to Amazon after the not very successful release of the movie starring Alicia Vikander and the cancellation of its sequel.
Waller-Bridge was invited to the project to rectify the situation. She will write the script and serve as an executive producer on the project.
But it seems that Netflix has decided to interfere a bit with Amazon's plans.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Release Date
Netflix is preparing for the premiere of the animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The series will launch on October 10. This is stated in the official teaser that was released on the Netflix YouTube channel on August 19. Despite the upcoming release, little is known about the project except for the synopsis.
The anime will take place after the events of the latest Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy of games – Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018). In the anime, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) will continue to uncover ancient secrets and explore amazing locations.
What Will Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Be About?
According to the plot, a powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from the Croft estate and the thief is somehow connected to the supernatural world. Lara Croft will embark on a journey around the world to find the criminal and return the artifact.
She will explore forgotten tombs and come face to face with her true self. Ultimately, Lara will have to decide what kind of heroine she wants to be.
