The Rings of Power Season 1 Recap: Everything to Remember Before Season 2 Drops
It's time to recall what happened in the first chapter.
The second season of The Rings of Power starts on August 29th. Ahead of the release of new episodes, we recalled what the debut season of the most expensive series in history is all about.
The Rings of Power consists of several storylines, the events of which unfold simultaneously, so the series regularly jumps from one character to another. Therefore, we will tell you about different characters in different chapters.
Galadriel and Sauron
After the end of the War of Wrath, Galadriel tries to track down the main minion of the fallen villain – Sauron. Most elves believe that evil has been defeated. But Galadriel is not ready to stop searching for the future main antagonist of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The main result of the first season is the creation of the first three Rings of Power by the Elven blacksmith Celebrimbor. However, the master did not work alone – he was assisted by Halbrand, under whose guise Sauron himself was hiding.
The Dark Lord was hiding in a human form when Galadriel, who met Halbrand on the open sea, survived the attack of the sea serpent and the journey to Numenor and the orcs together with him.
Upon arriving in the elven capital, Galadriel is alarmed by her new acquaintance's excessive attention to Celebrimbor's work. She decides to find out if her friend is who he claims to be. Galadriel assumed that Halbrand was the heir to the rulers of the southern human kingdoms, but later learns that this line died out more than a thousand years ago.
Thanks to her vigilance, the first rings were not tainted by Sauron's darkness. When the deception was discovered, Sauron fled to Mordor.
Harfoots and The Stranger
The first season introduced viewers to a mysterious gray-haired man who fell from the sky. The first people the old man meets are the ancestors of the hobbits – a nomadic tribe of harfoots. The main guide for the man who lost his memory is a girl named Nori.
In the final episode, the old man met with mysterious priestesses who thought that he was Sauron. It was this scene that finally dispelled the doubts: The Stranger is one of the Istari wizards sent to Middle-earth to help in the fight against evil.
At the end of the season, the old man goes to the lands of Rhun with Nori to remember who he is.
Numenoreans
In the first season, the ruler of the great Numenorean kingdom Tar-Palantir dies, and his daughter rules in his place. Her power-hungry advisor, Ar-Pharazon, is clearly plotting and will not miss the opportunity to take the throne.
Elendil, the future leader of the Numenoreans who founded the line of Gondor and Arnor and a distant ancestor of Aragorn, also appears in the show. It is he who discovers the raft with Galadriel and Halbrand and brings them to the capital. There he introduces them to Queen Miriel.
However, the head of the kingdom is not ready to welcome the elven warrior with open arms, and Galadriel's main allies will be Elendil and his children: sons Isildur and Anarion, and daughter Earien.
Dwarves of Khazad-Dum
Elrond is busy fulfilling one of King Gil-Galad's most important quests. He must help Celebrimbor create artifacts of unprecedented power. Only the elves themselves are not capable of such a mission.
Elrond travels to the kingdom of the dwarves, Khazad-Dum, with whom he hopes to forge an alliance. His acquaintance with Prince Durin IV will help him.
In the depths of the earth, the dwarves make an important discovery. Durin has long been reluctant to share with his friend the knowledge of a uniquely strong and light metal called mithril.
In the future, the mining of the precious substance will be closed. But from a small piece of mithril, combined with other precious metals, the three elven rings of power will be created.
Adar and The Orcs
Meanwhile, equally dark events are unfolding in the southern lands. The elf Arondir got close to a woman named Bronwyn. When the High King's decree to return home arrives, he decides to visit his beloved.
When he arrives at the village, the elf realizes that something is wrong. Cows give black slime instead of milk, and settlements are attacked, leaving neither dead nor wounded.
The main danger in these lands are the orc tribes controlled by an elf. His minions call him Adar. The villain is hunting for a certain hilt in the southern lands. The orc army almost finds the hilt, but at the crucial moment the army of Numenor, led by Miriel, Galadriel, and Elendil, lands on the shores.
During the clash between the Numenoreans and the orcs, Mount Orodruin erupts, filling the sky with ash. This allows the orcs, who fear the sunlight, to settle on the surface under the leadership of Adar and name the southern lands Mordor.
