Only two seasons into its HBO Max run, The Pitt is already hemorrhaging main cast — a jolt for viewers who tuned in at its January 2025 premiere to see Noah Wyle slip back into scrubs after ER.

The Pitt is only two seasons in on HBO Max and it has already waved goodbye to multiple regulars. Some of that is baked into the premise, but yeah — fans have noticed.

Quick refresher: what The Pitt is selling

The show launched in January 2025, with the big hook being Noah Wyle putting on a white coat again, long after ER. The ensemble clicked fast: Dr. Robby (Wyle), Dr. Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), charge nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell), and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).

Season 2 shuffle: where did Dr. Collins go?

Most of the cast came back for season 2 — except Tracy Ifeachor. In July 2025, Us Weekly reported it was actually the plan all along: Dr. Heather Collins was a fourth-year resident in season 1, and the show (set at a teaching hospital) was designed to move her on. The key clarifier: Ifeachor did not choose to leave, and as of then, no one was closing the door on a return.

"It was just such a joy and a pleasure to play Dr. Heather Collins... It just blew me away," Ifeachor told Us Weekly in September 2025, calling the experience life-changing even as she pivoted to her next project.

Before season 3: Supriya Ganesh is out, and a promotion elsewhere

Then in March 2026, it was confirmed Supriya Ganesh would not be back as Dr. Mohan. At the same time, Ayesha Harris was bumped up as Dr. Parker Ellis. Variety framed Ganesh’s exit as a story-driven call — again, the whole teaching-hospital design means rotations and departures are part of the fabric.

Ganesh actually hinted this might be coming a month earlier. In February 2026, she told Us Weekly she was curious where the writers would take Mohan next, noting the character was left in an interesting place.

Yes, viewers are annoyed

Off screen, fans have been vocal about losing multiple favorites this early. Fair reaction. It is also one of those TV mechanics: the format gives the show flexibility, but it also means good characters can cycle out faster than you want.

Who has left so far

  • Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins) — Absent from season 2. Per a July 2025 Us Weekly report, that was the plan from the start because Collins was a fourth-year resident in season 1. Ifeachor did not choose to leave, and a future return was not ruled out. In September 2025, she told Us Weekly the role was a joy and life-changing, while she headed to her next project.
  • Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan) — Not returning for season 3, confirmed March 2026. Variety said the call was story-driven. Alongside that, Ayesha Harris was elevated to series regular as Dr. Parker Ellis. In February 2026, before the news dropped, Ganesh told Us Weekly it was up to the writers and that Mohan had been left in an interesting spot.

Where this lands

Two seasons are out, and season 3 will look a little different. If the show sticks to its teaching-hospital DNA, expect more of this ebb and flow — and probably more debate about who stays and who goes.
