Euphoria’s lavish Cassie and Nate wedding came with a sly reveal: those blink-and-miss wardrobe malfunctions for Sydney Sweeney’s character were scripted to amp up the drama.

If you spotted Cassie flashing pasties during her big Euphoria wedding and figured it was a wardrobe fail, nope — that was the plan.

The wedding episode leaned into the chaos — dress included

On the Sunday, April 26 episode, Cassie and Nate (Jacob Elordi) go full fairy-tale with an over-the-top ceremony that swings between dreamy and disastrous. Cassie wears a custom corseted gown by Jackson Wiederhoeft with a plunge so deep her pasties peek in multiple shots — not by accident.

Costume team: do not tape, do embrace

Costume lead Natasha Newman-Thomas told InStyle on Monday, April 27 that Sydney Sweeney kept slipping out of the dress during filming. Instead of taping everything within an inch of its life, they decided the slip-ups should actually say something about Cassie — and built around it. They made custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric so the peek would feel intentional, character-first, and, yes, a little messy in a very Cassie way.

"We're going to make custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric and embrace the nip slip because that's so Cassie."

Newman-Thomas said the gown was designed around Cassie's headspace: she wants to be a princess, she wants to feel special, and there's a deliberate hint of tackiness baked in — beautiful and sexy, but with that slight extra that makes it Cassie.

The designer went for maximal, on purpose

Wiederhoeft described the dress as the kind of thing for a bride who wants everything: a high slit, heavy beading, and a 15-foot train. He framed the look as dressing as expression — or, depending on your read, dressing as revenge and trying to outdo everyone — but either way the brief was simple: do the most.

  • Episode aired Sunday, April 26; InStyle chat hit Monday, April 27
  • Cassie and Nate tie the knot amid the usual highs and lows
  • Custom Jackson Wiederhoeft corseted gown with a plunging neckline
  • Intentionally visible, custom hand-beaded pasties (no tape) to match the dress
  • Design vibe: princess fantasy with a purposeful touch of tacky, a high slit, beading, and a 15-foot train

Where Season 3 has Cassie now

Season 3 kicked off earlier this month and Cassie is still in full chaos mode. Right before the wedding special, she even flirts with starting an OnlyFans, which puts Sydney Sweeney, 28, in a topless scene that fits the storyline and the show's long-running comfort with pushing its characters into uncomfortable places.

Sweeney on nudity, then and now

Sweeney has been open about how the show's nudity shaped her career and how people read her work. Back in February 2022, she told Cosmopolitan she felt some folks didn't take her seriously on Euphoria because she took her shirt off, and that after watching The Voyeurs she wondered if she had gone too far. She even dug through past examples of big-name male actors doing nude scenes — who tend to get awards and applause — while women are often dismissed as just taking off their tops to land roles. Her point: the double standard is real, and she wants to help change it.

More recently, she said the nerves are gone. Euphoria, she says, gave her confidence and self-awareness. She sees the female body as powerful, and when she commits to a character, she does what the story needs — including scenes like the OnlyFans beat and the wedding-day slips that are, again, not accidents.

When to watch

Euphoria airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
