Survivor Host Jeff Probst Devastated by Brother Scott Probst’s Death
Survivor host Jeff Probst is mourning the death of his younger brother, Scott Probst, announced Monday by their brother Brent in an Instagram post remembering Scott as a beloved brother, son and friend.
Tough news out of the Survivor world: Scott Probst, the younger brother of longtime host Jeff Probst, has died.
What happened
Scott's passing was shared by his and Jeff's brother, Brent Probst, who posted the news on Instagram on Monday, May 11. The family has not shared a cause of death, and Jeff has not commented publicly as of publication.
Some sad news, our brother Scott is no longer with us. He was a great brother, son and friend. I will miss him so much. I am so sad he is gone.
Several Survivor alums showed up in the comments to offer support to the Probst family, including Adam Klein, Kendra McQuarrie, and Teeny Chirichillo.
Who Scott Probst was to Survivor
Jeff is the oldest of three brothers, and Scott worked behind the scenes on Survivor during multiple stretches. Per his IMDb page, Scott served as an art assistant from 2006 to 2008, then returned as a cameraman from 2011 to 2012. If you have ever wondered who helps build those elaborate tribal council sets or catches the chaos in the jungle, that was part of Scott's world for a while.
Where the show is now
Jeff has hosted Survivor since its 2000 premiere and is still at the center of the franchise as it celebrates season 50. The milestone run has fan favorites like Mike White, Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Savannah Louie, and Dee Valladares back in the mix chasing that $1 million prize, competing in challenges and outmaneuvering each other at tribal council.
Earlier this year, ahead of the Survivor 50 premiere, Jeff talked about how personally tied he is to the series and why he thinks the format can run forever. He also acknowledged the show could evolve with different voices in front of and behind the camera someday, and said that even if he is not hosting at some point, he hopes to stay involved because he loves it. That perspective lands a little differently today.
For now, sending condolences to the Probst family. If more details are shared, I will update.
