Survival of the Thickest: who does Khalil end up with? Not Simone, not India — she's someone season 3 only just introduced
Khalil spends two seasons circling relationships the show never quite commits to, and the final run resolves him a different way entirely. Here's how Survival of the Thickest closes out his story.
Three seasons in, Michelle Buteau's Netflix comedy gave almost everyone a tidy landing. Khalil's version of tidy is not the one the earlier seasons were setting up.
Khalil Holland, played by Tone Bell, is Mavis Beaumont's best friend and the show's most consistent romantic false start. Season 1 opens with him shooting his shot at Mavis, which goes nowhere, and the series spends the next two seasons handing him partners it then declines to build on.
India was the season 1 answer
India is an art student in Khalil's class and a single mother to a son, Cooper. They start as a one-night thing; Khalil is the one who wants more, arranging a non-physical date to prove it, and asking to meet Cooper once she tells him about her kid. The obstacle is Cooper's father, Henry, who refuses to have Khalil at the boy's birthday party. Khalil steps back so India can go without a fight, and the relationship quietly runs out of road.

Simone was the season 2 answer
Season 2 gives him Simone while he's dealing with an artistic block and a mother creating expensive problems. By season 3, reviewers noted that the romance had been effectively benched.
Khalil's season 2 relationship "receives minimal attention" in the final run, But Why Tho wrote in its 2026 review — which is the show telling you where his story is actually going.
What season 3 does with him instead
The eight-episode final season, released July 2, 2026, hands Khalil three things that have nothing to do with dating. He works through his relationship with his incarcerated father. He builds a friendship with Luca that exists independently of Mavis. And he ordains Mavis and Luca's wedding, which they hold quickly because Luca's visa renewal is stalling.

Then he tells Mavis he's gotten a woman pregnant.
- Imani — the woman carrying Khalil's child, introduced in the final season rather than carried over from the first two.
- Not a romance — the show presents this as co-parenting and a man deciding whether he can be a father, not as a couple getting together.
- The timing — Mavis, in the middle of her own fertility struggles and a miscarriage, congratulates him while privately taking the hit.
- The promise — Mavis commits to staying in the lives of both Khalil and the child.
Where he lands
The finale jumps three years. Mavis has her label, Mavis by Mavis Beaumont, on Times Square billboards, a marriage to Luca and a daughter. Khalil has a kid. The Review Geek's 2026 recap credits him with "embracing his own fatherly duties with maturity and grace," which is the show's actual answer to the question in the headline: not a partner, a child, and a version of himself that can handle one.
For the record: Tasha Smith's Marley is absent from the final season, and Luca — Marouane Zotti — gets promoted into the gap. Guest stars across the eight episodes include Wanda Sykes, Ice-T and D.L. Hughley.
