Supriya Ganesh exits The Pitt, sparking online buzz as HBO Max’s medical drama writes off Dr. Samira Mohan ahead of season 3 in a story-driven move following her season 2 finale exchange with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle).

Well, this one stings for fans of The Pitt: Supriya Ganesh is out before season 3, and people have feelings. The producers say the choice to write out Dr. Samira Mohan was purely story-driven. Ganesh has been talking about it a bit, and yes, she sees your tweets.

Where season 2 left Samira

Quick refresher: in the season 2 finale, Samira had a last conversation with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) right before he took off on his spirit quest — yes, that is actually the plot point. Samira’s status at the Pittsburgh Trauma Center was left up in the air, and the show may not spell out her fate until season 3 gets here.

What Ganesh wants for Samira next

Ganesh has a very specific wish list for where Samira lands. She likes the idea of pairing her with Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) and giving Samira an attending who actually believes she belongs in the ER. In her words to JoySauce in April 2026, the character’s whole experience might have looked different under a different boss — which, frankly, tracks with what we saw.

She also thinks Samira would fight to stay in Pittsburgh, not run back to New Jersey. In an April 2026 chat with TV Insider, Ganesh said Samira has more ties in Pittsburgh now, especially after losing her mom, who was her only real anchor back home. On top of that, Ganesh worries Samira is cooked — emotionally and physically — and wishes the character could hit pause, find community, and actually rest after what was arguably the worst day of her life.

The backlash and how she’s handling it

Fans did not take the news quietly. Ganesh told Variety in May 2026 that the response has been, in her word, surreal. The day the news dropped, she saw her name trending and noped out of doomscrolling.

"Gotta put the phone down and go outside."

She hasn’t been tracking every reaction since, but she says she’s gotten a flood of kind messages and has been genuinely surprised by how many people saw themselves in Samira — and that connection is what she’s going to miss most.

What she said and when

  • April 2026, JoySauce: Open to Samira linking up with Dr. Al-Hashimi; wants an attending who actually backs her in the ER.
  • April 2026, TV Insider: Samira would try to stay in Pittsburgh and at the hospital; New Jersey no longer holds her; she needs community — and honestly, a break, because she’s burned out.
  • May 2026, Variety: The fan response felt surreal; she stepped away from social after seeing her name trend; grateful for the sweet messages; teased a couple of projects in the pipeline but nothing to announce yet.

So, what now?

Ganesh says there are a couple of things in the works, but she’s not ready to say what. As for The Pitt, it’s rolling on without Samira for now. The show is streaming on HBO Max.
