After the credits, the movie gives a hint of what to expect in the finale.

Summary

  • The first full-length Haikyu!! movie (not including full-length recaps) has finally been released in North American theaters.
  • After watching the movie, fans were thrilled to discover the post-credits scene.
  • The moment hints at what to expect in the next and final anime film.

The original Haikyu!!! manga and anime ended back in 2020, but the popularity of this tale of semi-professional volleyball players only grows with each passing year. Of course, Haikyu!!! is not the only sports franchise that has gained traction — iconic manga and anime series such as Slam Dunk or Kuroko's Basketball immediately come to mind. And yet it is Haikyu!! that is now breaking all world records, and is on par with such cult series as One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, and more recently Demon Slayer.

Now, four years after the finale of the anime series, the first instalment of the feature-length conclusion has been released worldwide, adapting the final chapters of the manga that were not included in the fourth season of the show. Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle was released in Japan back in February and managed to become one of the most profitable Japanese movies of 2024, and now, starting May 31, it's available in US theaters as well.

Its post-credits scene got the most attention from fans, as it hinted at what we should expect in the next movie and what will and won't be included in the manga. Let's take a look at the final post-credits scene.

What Does Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Post-credits Scene Tell Us?

This article contains major spoilers for Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, so we strongly recommend that you watch the movie before reading it.

As you probably know, the plot of the movie follows the events of the finale of the fourth season of the anime series, at the renowned Tokyo Nationals tournament. Shoyo Hinata and his Karasuno High team face off in an exciting match against Nekoma High, one of Karasuno's main rivals throughout the story. Despite a previous loss to Nekoma, the crows are able to steal the victory from the wildcats this time.

Karasuno High School has now advanced to the quarterfinals, and the competition will only get tougher. What's next for Shoyo and his friends? Find out in the post-credits scene.

After the credits, the movie shows Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama watching the match of their next opponents, Kamomedai High, whose member is Korai Hoshiumi, who, like Shoyo, has made his way to the top of volleyball despite his short stature. After the match, Hoshiumi challenges Shoyo to see who is the true 'tiny giant'.

In other words, the final movie (which has no title or release date yet) will focus on the Karasuno vs. Kamomedai confrontation. However, this was far from the final chapter of Haruichi Furudate's manga — the main story of Haikyu!!! ends at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. So for now, we're left wondering whether the writers will decide to leave the ending for Hinata and co. open-ended, or to provide a fast-forward narrative of the characters' fate.

Where to Watch the Main Series and the New Movie?

Currently, all four seasons, OVAs and feature-length recaps are available on Crunchyroll, Prime and Apple TV+. In addition, the anime is gradually being added to Netflix US, with the first two seasons of the series already available on the streaming service.
