Sophie Turner Reveals Why Sansa Stark’s Ending Stands Out
Sophie Turner opens up about her satisfaction with Sansa Stark’s fate in Game of Thrones, sharing her unique perspective on the series finale and her thoughts on possibly returning to the franchise.
Sophie Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, recently shared her thoughts on how her character’s journey wrapped up. While many of her fellow cast members have voiced mixed feelings about their characters’ conclusions, Turner stands out for her contentment with Sansa’s final chapter.
During a conversation with The Direct, Turner was asked if she’d ever consider stepping back into the world of Westeros for one of the upcoming spin-offs.
“Show me the money (laughs). I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it,”
she responded, hinting at both the challenges and excitement such a return might bring.
Reflecting on Sansa’s Unique Fate
Turner went on to explain that her satisfaction with Sansa’s ending sets her apart from most of the cast.
“But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending,”
she said.
“I feel like I got a good one, and so I don’t know if I could revisit it.”
Unlike many characters whose stories ended in tragedy or ambiguity, Sansa’s arc concluded with her being crowned Queen in the North, securing independence for her homeland. This rare positive outcome made her journey stand out among the often grim fates of other key figures in the series.
Considering a Return to Westeros
Turner admitted that the idea of returning to the franchise is both tempting and daunting.
“Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can't be recreated. I would have to see a script. ”
Her openness to the possibility is clear, but she remains cautious about revisiting a story that ended so well for her character.
Meanwhile, not all former cast members share her enthusiasm. Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, was quick to dismiss the idea of reprising his role, even in an audiobook format.
“No, god no,”
Harington replied when asked about voicing Jon Snow again.
“I don't wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I'm alright.”
What’s Next for the Franchise
While the future of certain spin-offs remains uncertain—such as the previously announced Snow series, which was shelved before production—fans can look forward to new stories from Westeros. The next chapter, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is set to premiere on HBO in the US on January 18 and on Sky/NOW TV in the UK on January 19. For those eager to explore more, there’s a growing list of upcoming Game of Thrones movies and shows in the works.
