Sinestro return? Ulrich Thomsen is game for more beyond 'Lanterns'

The actor behind Thaal Sinestro is already game for more. Ulrich Thomsen says he’d happily keep returning to the role on HBO ’s Lanterns—even after spending three to four hours in the chair for full-body makeup and prosthetics. He added that the team even dialed back Sinestro’s hue after an early camera test made him look “a little too pink.”

“It ’s a great world. It’s a great take on the Lanterns, I think. Bring it on. I’m ready,” Thomsen told TheWrap.

Thomsen’s Sinestro arrives with the comic’s unmistakable look—pink complexion, razor-sharp brows, and that signature mustache—but the show is threading it through his uneasy history with Hal Jordan. The season has only begun to unpack that fractured mentor-student bond, and Thomsen’s ready-for-more stance hints at deeper dives into Sinestro’s past and ideology if the series keeps going.

Reynolds floats a cameo

There’s another Green Lantern alum circling the conversation. Asked by Entertainment Tonight about dropping by the new show, Ryan Reynolds —who played Hal in the 2011 movie —didn’t hesitate.

“I would totally do a cameo in that. I love it,” Reynolds said.

There’s no confirmation he’ll actually appear, and the series’ current lineup stands with Kyle Chandler as Hal and Aaron Pierre as John. Still, HBO Max ’s social team leaned into Reynolds’ comment with a playful video reply on social media, which helped kick up the chatter.

Momentum is building for Lanterns: Episode 3 drew 10 million global viewers in its first three days, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. And Pierre’s John Stewart is set to continue into James Gunn ’s big-screen DCU in Man of Tomorrow, now slated for theaters on July 9, 2027 .
