Severance Season 2 Is Near: Release Date, Plot & Everything We Know about the Apple TV+ Show
The wait is almost over.
The sci-fi series Severance was released in 2022 and immediately became a hit. The first season ended in the most interesting place. In January, 2025, the long-awaited second season will finally premiere.

The Filming of the Second Season Took Much Longer Than Planned
The filming of the second season was in danger of being disrupted for several reasons. It all started with a conflict within the writing staff. While working on the first season, screenwriter Mark Friedman and showrunner Dan Erickson could not find a common language and at one point even stopped talking to each other.
Friedman wanted to leave the project, but Ben Stiller persuaded him to stay. To avoid further disagreements, screenwriter Beau Willimon was brought in.
The second reason for the production hell was the Hollywood strikes. Work on new episodes began in October 2022, and filming was scheduled to last until May 2023. However, due to large-scale protests by writers and actors, production of the season had to be halted. Filming did not resume until January 2024 and lasted until April.
What Will Season 2 Be About?
The first season of Severance ended with several cliffhangers, and the final ninth episode left more questions than it answered. The idea to keep the intrigue going was Ben Stiller's, who promised that the new episodes would bring some clarity to the plot.
In the second season, Mark and his friends will face the terrible consequences of the office personalities' foray into the real world. Nothing more is known about the plot, but the show's creators hint that the continuation will reveal the dark secrets of the Lumon Industries.
The first season was almost entirely devoted to Mark's story, and unfolded mostly within the walls of the office. In the new episodes, the creators plan to expand the universe of the series and pay more attention to the outside lives of the other characters.
There will be more focus on Helly, Dylan and Irving, whom viewers know only from the office personalities. As for the sinister conspiracy surrounding Mark's family, the creators promise to return to that conflict as well.
Severance Season 2 Release Date & Number of Episodes
The second season will premiere on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025. On that day, two new episodes will be released at once.
The remaining episodes will be released one at a time every Friday through March 21. In total, the new season will have ten episodes – one more than the previous season.
