There are not many worthy political comedies these days so don't miss this one.

Armando Iannucci is a British screenwriter and showrunner who created a hilarious sitcom about a British government ministry for the BBC, The Thick of It, and then made a feature-length movie based on that series with the same characters, In the Loop.

Politics, in Iannucci's interpretation, is a chain of accidental successes and constant blunders: a silly joke or an ill-timed phrase can cost a career, so in public a politician is constantly watching public opinion.

As a result, following conventions becomes an end in itself – instead of doing business, a politician must constantly monitor his behavior. This tension is more than compensated for in closed offices, where employees of ministries and departments encourage each other with incessant swearing and are mainly busy solving the problems they themselves created.

What Is Veep About?

One of HBO's biggest comedy triumphs of the last decade is Veep, about newly minted Vice President Selina Meyer and her team. It's a behind-the-scenes look at how politicians pass legislation, burnish their image with Instagram posts, and build relationships with colleagues.

Selina Meyer holds the second most important political position in the country. However, her ambitions are so strong that she does not want to waste her time in her usual place. Meyer believes that she must reach the presidential seat, and strangely enough, fate itself unexpectedly begins to throw opportunities to the woman to achieve her goal.

Veep Is Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Finest Performance

Julia Louis-Dreyfus became famous thanks to her participation in the sitcom Seinfeld, but it was Veep that marked a real triumph in the actress' career. Her character is a complex person who combines an attractive exterior with real cynicism and hypocrisy.

In public, she is sweet and reasonable. In reality, she is a despot who bullies her subordinates and thinks only of herself. However, the star of the series portrays her character as a multifaceted and purposeful woman who inspires sympathy.

Selina is an extremely expressive person, prone to brilliant verbal outbursts, usually obscene. However, all the amazing monologues that sound within the walls of the White House would have remained ordinary monologues were it not for the natural charisma of Louis-Dreyfus, whose performance fully justified numerous Emmy nominations.

Veep Is One on the Most Watched Series on Hulu Right Now

Veep recently shot to the top of Hulu's most-watched shows, so it's a great excuse to rewatch all seven seasons of one of the best political comedies of the past decade.
